Can't sleep

PoodlesRUs · 11/08/2024 00:56

Audiobooks aren't working, neither is music.
I'm very fidgety and feel wide awake but am actually very tired. Up for work in 4 hours.

Anyone have suggestions to help? If I'm still awake in 20 min I'll check for replies

I tend to use sleep stories when I have real trouble getting to sleep…the ones that aren’t really about anything but read in a very calming voice that helps you drop off. It’s a nightmare though, hope you manage to get some before you’re up.

Was just coming on to say calm app sleep stories. If your head is whizzing try to focus on the story. You'll be asleep in no time.

Audiobooks might be too intriguing. Could you do boring podcasts? Sleep With Me, Nothing Much Happens. Or a hypnotherapy get to sleep podcast.

I get out of bed for half an hour and try again later.

Proper relaxation breathing helps.

I’ve found Sleep Sounds for Overthinkers on Spotify works for me OP.
A friend of mine uses white noise, but I find that too distracting.

Do you have a spare duvet/ blankets or pillows?

If so, put some on your feet for extra weight. A pillow between your knees, and one behind your back, plus one between your arms. Make a cosy nest. Put on classic fm or some other chilled music station, on low so its just on the edge of hearing, then close your eyes. I read somewhere (maybe on here!) A while ago that resting is as good as sleep if you can't sleep. So close your eyes, listen to the music, try not to think of "not being able to sleep" and just relax in your cosy nest. Even if you don't sleep, at least you switched your brain and body off for a bit.

I recommend a website (and it's on Spotify) called Nothing much happens. It's sleep stories amd they really help me get to sleep.

Unfortunately they don't drown out the sound of a snorer, hence why I'm still awake 😫

I used to use relaxatIon exercise - start at your toes and tell them to relax and let go, move to feet, then ankles etc til your work your way up. Basically it's keeping your mind from wandering and getting anxious by focussing on one thing.

It's just too warm to sleep. Windows wide, fan on, hot sweaty body snoring next to me.

I’m awake as on holiday in a small bed and DH rolled over and knocked poor Ddog off onto the floor (he was fine).
then there was lots of general faffing, I needed a wee………

I put on a meditation and managed to get some shuteye.
