Clindamycin - anyone who's taken it?

I've just been prescribed the antibiotic Clindamycin (150mg, 4 x a day) by my max-facs consultant to try to treat a chronic infection (weeks of Amoxicillin not working) and hopefully avoid surgery.

Started it today and it's giving me a really churning stomach that's making me feel quite sick.

The Dr said that if I get stomach issues with it, I should stop taking it.

But looking at various medical websites, there seems to be a suggestion that nausea etc may go away after a day or two of use. Eg "IF nausea symptoms persist then speak to your dr" etc

I'm going to email my dr to ask what to do, ie do I give it a couple of days to see if my body gets used to the medication, or shall I just stop them immediately. I can email tomorrow but I imagine he won't reply until Monday.

So, I'm not sure what to do tomorrow (Sunday), I am feeling quite rubbish so would love to stop them to be honest, but I also don't want to miss an opportunity of being cured by a few weeks of these strong antibiotics rather than surgery (which will cost me ££££ as I'm seeing a private surgeon as the NHS wait is 5 months or more and I've been in pain for months already).

Has anyone here got experience of taking Clindamycin? Did any stomach issues go away after a few days?

Thanks

What is the infection?

Chronic infection in my gum following failed & removed dental implants.

They don't know exactly what's causing it and it doesn't go away completely on Amoxicillin and flares up again whenever I stop the Amoxicillin.

so trying stronger antibiotics for a few weeks or will have to have exploratory surgery to open up, clean etc

Think I've decided to stop the new antibiotic now and just see what the dr suggests as an alternative

Are you taking it with food and drinking a full glass of water?

Basically, don’t take it on an empty stomach.

I’m allergic to penicillin. As I have had a hip replacement I have to take a single dose of the stuff one hour before every dental/hygienist appointment.

Did mistakenly take the first one on an empty stomach but took the next one with dinner. Felt ill for 4+ hours after and. Have to take 4 a day 😢

Will stop for today and email the doctor I think...

Thanks

Pls don't stop it until you speak to the GP. This is exactly how you develop antibiotic resistance. Try & take it with food before. Do you also take a probiotic with it?

I'm not gong to try to speak to my GP. would take forever to get an appointment.

Consultant told me to stop taking it if it gives me stomach problems so I'm going by that, I'll email him today to be sure, he may well reply today,, if not I imagine it'll be tomorrow morning.

Still got stomach issues this morning more than 12 hours after I last took it...
