I need to travel for work. It's a new job only 3 months in so still finding my feet.
It homebased but with a travel element to client sites when needed.
My schedule for end of August to October means I'll be away m-f for 5 weeks at 5 different parts of England.
My company is good will pay for travel and hotel plus meal allowance but it's not great hotels premier inn/ travel lodge usually.
But what do I do in the evening? Budget is limited (dh can't work)
Should I just watch tv?
I enjoy time alone but nearly 5 weeks is going to be difficult.
Anyone got any ideas?

Which Leeds hotel is it/ or rough area of Leeds? Can probably come up with some suggestions.

Apply for a credit card so that you can pay for stuff, and claim it back on expenses before the bill arrives. That way you can vary where you eat and aren't tied to the hotel.

Just do what you would when at home? When I travel for work it's usually to London. If I'm there for a couple of nights I try to see a show or get out and about. I'm usually knackered afterwards!

Unfortunately I don't know where until the week before. Then I get sent my travel and hotel details.
Will ask for help closer to the time, thanks.
I do have a credit card I will use.

Thanks for the suggestions but the gym is out of the question due to a arthritic dodgy ankle

Yeah you can and should lift weights with a dodgy arthritic ankle. Time to work on your old lady body. Get strong so you aren’t crippled when you’re older

Recognise you might not have been there long enough yet but I would strongly recommend either getting to a point where you book your own travel or make your preferences clear.

A couple of weeks with dinner included is manageable but honestly after weeks of it you'll never want another cook from frozen lasagne again.

You may be a lot more disciplined than me but I ended up putting on weight when I was travelling for work like that, and asking you to stay and eat that food for weeks at a time isn't a reasonable ask.

Ultimately it sounds like you're going to have to get through this round of stays but once it's done I'd look at what you can change for next time.

What most people do at home includes: cook, spend time with partner, kids, pets, friends, go to their regular gym or outside-the-house hobbies/activities. None of which are options.

I take my personal laptop and play Sims Grin

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 10/08/2024 23:03

I'd go to bed early then get up early for gym or yoga before work
