Where do "youngsters" 😂 get suits from that are cheap please.
She needs one for 6th form and job interviews.

I had a look at our go to, h and m and it's very expensive or doesn't look classically suit like?

Where should we be looking please.

Also look on eBay. In the past I've bought DS several suits from there he has to have them because attends formal events with his sport and in a year or so he'd have grown out of them.

boredybored · 09/08/2024 12:25

Next

gamerchick · 09/08/2024 12:28

I just order that stuff from next.

gamerchick · 09/08/2024 12:28

As has been said already Grin

cavernclub · 09/08/2024 12:30

My DS got a very nice one from M&S - has used it for his prom and for work experience.
Machine washable trousers too Smile

comeundone · 09/08/2024 12:31

Vinted is great for lightly used stuff, especially if you've a clear idea of what you want. The corporate world has changed a lot in recent years, and I wouldn't worry as much for interviews about a suit as such, many sixth form students go to interviews in smart dresses or top and trousers/skirt without jacket. Sixth forms do still have weird and put off date attire rules tho.
Washable things is important as you don't want a bunch of stuff that is dry clean only, especially if using public transport or cycling to sixth form/work.

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 09/08/2024 12:31

New Look is our go-to place for smartish stuff for teens. 17yo and 13yo get a lot of concert blacks from there.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 09/08/2024 12:31

Next, M&S, also sainsburys and Tesco often has them in the women’s ranges.

dbeuowlxb173939 · 09/08/2024 12:42

Primark usually have a good range, or Matalan (but my teenage DD would absolutely no way shop there!)

StamppotAndGravy · 09/08/2024 12:45

Have a lot at h&m online again. The jacket and trousers/skirt about 50-60 together and they wear ok. I think you're unlikely to get a set much cheaper than that anywhere anymore. At least h&m is cut for young people, whereas she could end up looking quite frumpy in an m&s or matalan suit.

RoseandVioletCreams · 09/08/2024 13:19

So next actually has a teen school range with a basic looking black blazer and different skirts.
We are driving to see if our local next has any of this in store, it's not clear what they stock.

This is just basics re smart looking jacket and skirt /trousers so she's not bothered where it comes from.

She's 17, surely she is the size of a fully grown woman? I am not sure why you seem fixated on getting her 'teen' clothing.
Up until relatively recently she would probably be working a full time job by now to support herself....shopping for adult clothing would be more appropriate.

Agree! My DD was tiny when starting 6th form - barely 5', and a size 6-8. Still got her well fitting skirt and trousers suits from the ladies section in Next!

RoseandVioletCreams · 09/08/2024 14:02

@LittleLantern123 I'm not fixated on anything at all?

It's really hard to pin down sizes and sizes differ vastly from shop to shop

Choosing an age 17 jacket is far easier??

Next have a lot more online than in the shops.

She is very unlikely to grow much more at 17 though, she needs to know roughly what size she is in adult clothing!
Are you very rural (I noticed in one of your posts it sounded like you hadn't heard of Next?) or perhaps not in the UK?
I think you are doing her a disservice by dressing her in children's clothes at 17 tbh.

RoseandVioletCreams · 09/08/2024 15:00

@LittleLantern123 thank you for your comments.

We are not near an easily accessible large town and the proper nearest next has chopped and changed its stock.
So I gave up.
I have however heard of next but as I said, it's somewhere I always forget.

My dd gets her clothes for every day from mango teen, zara, h and m.

What we are after right now, and I'm not sure if you have understood the brief, is a plain black or navy smart suit jackets and and 6th form wear/ interview job wear.

There isn't that much in lower level £ fashion between one black jacket and skirt and another.

OP posts:
xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 09/08/2024 16:11

I just wore a smart dress with a jacket/blazer, or trousers and waistcoat with a nice top. Both looked smart and I got the job both times.

ETA sorry missed the but about 6th form. Next is my go to fir suits. M&S never have any. I sold my worn once suit on vinted though. So you could always try there too.

What's your definition of "relatively recent" that 17 year olds would probably have left home and be financially independent?

It's many decades since I was that age and it certainly wasn't normal then

I do agree about teen clothing though, ime buying things by age stops at about 12:unless it's school uniform

RoseandVioletCreams · 09/08/2024 16:40

Next has clothes for teens up to 18 by age. @Seeline that's very smart thank you

RoseandVioletCreams · 09/08/2024 16:41

I think for this year if we can get cheaper stuff then invest in something like that for next year and beyond.

SiobhanSharpe · 09/08/2024 16:56

Does it have to be a jacket and skirt combo?
AFAICR the sixth form girls at DS old school could wear a dress and jacket (obvs not strappy, frilly or low cut, but the sort of day dress an adult would wear for work). And just a dress in the sunmer.
Also does the jacket have to be black or navy? What about burgundy, grey, mid blue etc. The sixth formers at local schools have to wear clothrs that are suitable for work. Jacket and chinos would be fine for boys, for example.
It was basically no denim or sportswear, for both sexes. Trousers fine for girls and boys but these did not necessarily have to match a jacket.

ThisHangryPinkBalonz · 09/08/2024 16:57

Next and when you know her size vinted! Got loads of cheap quality brands for my son.
