How to squeeze this?

How do I fit 36.5 hours a week into 4 days. Remote working and have to collect kids from nursery/after school Club (both 5 mins away) by 6pm.

I don't need to do morning school runs as my partner will do them. Can work any hours really as long as I can pick the kids up. If you work compressed hours give me some advice thanks!

Apologies but I hoped it was about a big spot Blush

36.5 divided by 4 gives you 9.125 hrs/day
So looking at starting around 7am amd finishing before 6pm. You don't say whether 36.5 is inclusive of lunch break or not so that will impact on start time.
Talk to your HR team for advice.

That's 9 hours and a few minutes a day.

It should be quite easy if you start at 8.30. If you start at 8, you'll get a short lunch break.

I answer the door, switch washing loads while im stretching my legs during the day. Otherwise I just work through.

Do those days seem too long to you?

At risk of being overly simplistic, couldn’t you just start at 8 for four days per week.

NowImNotDoingIt · 08/08/2024 21:34

8:30-5:50 day one
8:40 -5:50 day two

8:50 - 5:50 day three and four.

Working lunch or no lunch if doable/allowed.

If you need more time at the end of the day, start the day earlier.

Can you work after the kids are home? You can break up your day with 6 hours in the morning (and lunch) and 3 hours in the afternoon (plus the extra 30 mins, either split or in one go). Or even better , 8 (and a bit) starting in the morning ( 9- 5ish) and an extra hour when the kids are in bed.

Slightly off topic, but surely people don’t literally work to the minute when working from home? I’m assuming most jobs are not closed kings in and out? Therefore it’s roughly 9-9.5 hours per day.

We would have to take a half hour unpaid lunch break, but even then you could work 8-5.30 and I don't think that would feel too bad.

A friend who does this prefers to work 2 much longer and 2 normal days but I don't think this would work for your 6pm pick up.

@OKherewegoagain glad it wasn't just me 😂

I too was going to direct you to sporners corner!

But, just over 9 hours a day. Finish 5 45, start (slightly before) 8.15 to get a 30 min lunch in.

Or start earlier, finish earlier.

TheMiraculousLadybug · 08/08/2024 21:50

Start as early as possible I think?

I used to do a 7am start as I was in the same position with only needing to do school pickup. It was fine, but dh did all of the work getting kids ready for school
