How long till antibiotics kick in?

Prescribed yesterday for hand and it's like this now.

I just sent GP a photo, I wasn't seen in person and it was not this bad with previous photo.

Do I just persevere with the antibiotics and cream?

It's so itchy, it's driving me mad.

And I don't even know what it is. I just got a txt to say antibiotics and creme at chemist.

Please go and get it seen at a&e asap. Your GP will likely send you to hospital anyway.

Better to go now under your own steam than be wheeled in in the middle of the night because you've developed sepsis!

It's hot to the touch still and leaking.

Why aren't the antibiotics working?? :(

Not effective against the strain of bacteria. It needs swabbing and culturing to get something that will work, and tbh I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up with a IV antibiotics.

Your hands are so important. It needs treatment today, probably at A&E.

What's the diagnosis?

I would definitely go to A & E. It has definitely got worse since your first post. The antibiotics aren't working because they are the wrong type for whatever it is that you've got, or not strong enough. That looks nasty now.

It maybe the wrong type of antibotics. It maybe that the bacteria is resistant to the first line of defence antibiotics and you need different ones.

How have you got different ones? Where did you go?

Favouritefruits · 11/08/2024 18:44

I had something like that on my face and it took two months of constant antibiotics to get rid of, you couldn’t see any improvement for three weeks then slowly it cleared up.

I called 111 and had a phone consultation with a GP, with updated uploaded photos.

That's awful. I'm feeling very self conscious of it but at least I can hide my hand in my pocket when out. That must've been very difficult
