It's wild. Phil has hair. Kirsty looks so young. Flats in London cost £105k. The programme is much more unpolished but more real. And the buyers have realistic budgets. I miss this era so much!

Oh I'd like to see that! Is it on Channel 4 catch up?

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 08/08/2024 13:48

Yes. Come on over!! Just keep scrolling down to the bottom

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 08/08/2024 21:44

Anyone else watching. Desperate to talk about this🙂

I watched those old ones recently.

If only they'd known how prices would soar!

Nitpicking over offers when they are all worth hundreds of thousands more now.

MrsMitford3 · 10/08/2024 21:46

ooooh am going to have a look!!!👀

I know. The prices in the first series are crazy. A whole house for circa 60k . I wish it was as affordable now

I bought my first house in 2002 for £80k. Just imagine!

I keep thinking about rewatching them.

Cobblersorchard · 10/08/2024 23:04

I bought my first house in that era, inspired by that programme. Straight out of uni, everyone else was renting but I spent every pound I had to buy a £74k little 2 bed in early 2021. I earned £15.5k at the time and got a £60k mortgage.

I still have it (although bought elsewhere as well since and it’s rented), it’s last mortgage valuation was £325k (although they have dropped a smidge since).

Genuinely the best decision of my life apart from having DD.

JoanThursday · 10/08/2024 23:10

I must hunt out those early LLLs! I bought my first house in 2001 for £63k. I earned £18k at the time and managed to get a 100% mortgage. I sold the house 4 years later but I do wish I was able to keep it. They are valued about £240k now (2 up 2 down in Yorks).

Aussiegirl123456 · 10/08/2024 23:48

Ah those were the days! 2002!
Bought my first house with my boyfriend (now husband) when we were 18 and 20. I’d just finished sixth form and started a job at a call centre for £12,000 a year while doing part time uni (which was only £3000 tuition!).

£62,001 we paid!

We aren’t in England anymore, but house prices pretty much worldwide have gone mental. Our son (19) just bought his first house after working full time for 3 years and saving like crazy. He still has a whopping mortgage though. And he’s one of the ‘lucky’ ones. It’s so much harder for young ones these days. Totally different times.

I remember watching this way back when it started; before it became popular. Loved it. I also loved Relocation, Relocation. I was so inspired. It seemed like the clients were more open minded or is that me wearing rose tinted specs and reminiscing on the good ol days :-)

No they absolutely were. Now they can be absolutely divaish with high budgets and ridiculous expectations

Exactly. These days most of the clients have unrealistic expectations. Some of them haven’t’ even tried that hard to find something suitable. They just have a long list of non-negotiables and seem ‘proud to be picky’ which I find boring zzzz. However, I love Kirstie and Phil and still enjoy watching these shows.

I also suspect that most of the people who go on ‘Love it or list it’ never intended to move, they just want Kirstie to help redesign their home. The US version of ‘Love it or list it’ had way more people listing.

@sandrapinchedmysandwich

I have finally had a chance to watch but can't find it-don't seem to have channel 4 on catch up and when I search directly by name it says not available?

Help! We have a virgin box if that makes a difference?

So annoying

Indeed. I really dislike some of the later clients. Especially the ones with huge budgets who refer to massive beautiful homes as too small when it's just for a couple and a dog. They don't live in the real world

Oh I am really not sure. I am sorry. I watched on a Firestick on catchup. Could you access the 4 app on a device maybe instead?

I hear you. What gets my goat is when clients look down at or dismiss houses that don’t have period features. They say ‘it lacks character’ repeating the same as everyone else in previous episodes like a Parrot. It’s not only period houses that have character. I understand why people love and appreciate period features (as I do in my Victorian home) but a place doesn’t necessarily lack character because it doesn’t have period features. Also you can add character to a home in many ways. Anyway that’s my opinion and ultimately I shouldn’t care as I’m not viewing, buying or selling the house. I just find it annoying is all.
