Kinked hair

My hair has always been frizzy in humid conditions etc but I have been able to manage it but over the last 6 months, it has developed this big kink at the back that I just can't do anything with. It's like when you've had it in a bobble except I haven't. I try straightening it but it just comes back. I feel like such a mess.

Have you asked your hairdresser about it? Maybe get one of those keratin treatments that straighten your hair?

If your hair is frizzy and kinky then you’re probably naturally wavy or curly. I’ve had to embrace my natural curls after 20 years of straightening and it’s made my life a lot easier.
You’d need to use some products in it. If you’re interested then I’ve got plenty of recommendations.

I would love it if my hair was gorgeously curly. It seems to be curly in parts and straighter in others so I never know which way to go and my hairdresser agrees it has changed over the past 6 months.

I would be grateful for any recommendations you can offer! If I can embrace my curly side, I will!

Well as you’re not sure if you’re curly then you won’t be wanting to spend loads of money on expensive products. I’d go for something like Umberto Giannini curl jelly scrunching jelly. Wash and condition your hair and perhaps use a light leave in conditioner or curl cream. Then hold your head upside down and scrunch your hair. If you see waves or curl clumps forming when your hair is wet, you do have curly/ wavy hair!
At this point, when your hair is still really wet, apply the curl jelly. I clip up the top layer of my hair and then split the lower layer of my hair into two sections. I apply a good blob of gel to each section. Spread it through with ‘praying hands’ and then scrunch, scrunch, scrunch! If your hair is wet enough then it will make a lovely squishing noise! Repeat with the top layer of your hair. Don’t rub or wrap your hair with a towel! If you want to remove some of the water at this point, then scrunch it with an old cotton t shirt. Then diffuse or air dry.
Dont panic if your hair feels crispy/ crunchy when it’s dry. That’s the curl cast. Don’t touch your hair til it’s completely dry and then gently scrunch out the curl cast.
Give it a go! It’s such a relief to have ditched the straighteners!

@JulietSierra can I just ask, I've got shoulder length wavyish hair. How long would it need to be for that scrunch gel to make it look really good? Sorry for the derail OP but my hair is forever put up because it goes frizzy in humidity. Thanks for the thread, hopefully I can use the advice too

@Devilsmommy I think it would definitely work on shoulder length hair as long as
your hair has a wave/curl. My tip is to use more gel than you think you need. It will
feel super crunchy when dry but the crunch does scrunch out easily. And you must
use it on wet hair…it kind of clumps the curls together before they dry out and frizz.

If you use the gel and discover you have wavy/ curly potential, I'd recommend buying
a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner (again Umberto Giannini is good and
affordable…currently on offer in Boots I think) and a leave in curl cream, to use after
conditioner (to add a bit of moisture and help with curl definition).

I've become a bit addicted to buying different products now! My favourite is the mega
hold gel from Only curls but I really like the more affordable Umberto Giannini range
too. Cantu curl custard is very affordable and has great hold. It's a weird consistency
though. I put a blob in my hand and wet it before distributing it all over my palms and
fingers then applying to my hair. The Cantu makes a really crunchy curl cast but don't
panic, it scrunches out to leave lovely soft curls!

@JulietSierra thanks so much for the advice. Will try the Umberto first. My hair is Definitely wavy not curly so will be looking forward to seeing how it looks full on wavy 😁
