How long does a vasectomy take?

Husband is having one on Friday, under local anaesthetic. I know the actual procedure itself is fairly quick but I was wondering how long to expect him to be away for? I’m giving him a lift to the hospital which is over an hour away so I won’t be coming home, just trying to decide if I will have time to go off and do a few things (like the weekly food shop!) while he is away or if he’ll be in and out so quick I should just sit in the car park with book? Will they want to keep an eye on him for any time after they are finished or will he be in and out within an hour?

Impossible to say because like any medical appointment you don't know where he is on the list or if they are running to time. It was a good few hours for us, I went to a coffee shop around the corner with my laptop. He didn't need to stay long for observations but he wasn't the first on the list (annoyingly where we went they gave a group of men the same time to turn up).

Probably to allow for the ones who wouldn't bother to show up. It's a problem with all appointments - and why I've been seen anything up to 45 minutes before my scheduled appointment time recently (I'm going by public transport, so tend to get places early rather than risk missing my time), as everybody before me has failed to attend.

20 mins for DH.

I did think this would be like asking how long a piece of string is!

He’s a late morning appointment so there will have been plenty of opportunity for them to be running hours late by the time he is due to go in. Good to know that they don’t seem to be kept for monitoring after they are finished though, I might just go grab a take away coffee in that case, come back and wait in the car (it’s a smaller district hospital he’s going to, there’s not even a tea room for me to wait for him in)

@NeverDropYourMooncup yes very true to be fair, I remember them saying they get a lot of no shows now you mention it.

DreadPirateRobots · 07/08/2024 18:08

I think DH was in and out in 20, but as PP say they could be running ninety mins behind. Who can say.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/08/2024 18:22

DH was done in 20 mins.

Definitely feeling short changed by how short the majority of responses are here 😂 we even went private!

BloodyAdultDC · 07/08/2024 18:45
