Thank You to the Police (riots)

Among all the chaos, I wanted to acknowledge and thank the police for their service in dealing with these terrorists. I heard many have had to cancel leave, and lots have been injured during the past few days.

I know they get a lot of stick, but they are putting themselves out there to try and protect us. So ... that's it - a massive thank you for what you do, and to your friends and family who must be worried sick while you're on your shifts.

Absolutely agree. Thank you officers.

I read 50 were injured in Rotheram and 29 in Southport, I know a couple of young officers. I’m going out with one of their Mums for lunch on Friday, he has thankfully not been injured but is stationed in a city centre where there has been a major incident and people arrested.

Thanks to all officers

Yes. Having to take abuse is one thing, but having missiles lobbed at them must be terrifying. There's a good series on radio 4 at the moment that covers this, Policing Protest.

(And I know they're not 100% perfect, I've complained to the police about something in the past).

It's the Muslim community who have been serving police tea and biscuits and handing out bottled water from their shops

How ' British!'

Lovely lovely gesture from those communities

I didn't know this, how lovely!

They must be so tired, I hear some are working really long shifts at the moment.

Absolutely agree with you 100%, the human, dog and horse police are all doing utterly brilliantly I very much appreciate what they're doing!

Weirdly, incidents like this can be strangely reaffirming for the police in the long term. I have policed riots and although they were pretty intense at the time and it is very clear that some individuals want to cause serious harm to you, once order is restored people come out of the woodwork to thank you and tell you that the rioters don't speak for them. There's a lot more of the latter, I'm pleased to say.

Thank you to everyone on this thread. 💐

Lonelycrab · 07/08/2024 10:31

Totally agree OP

SunnyWindowCrackWokeMeUp · 07/08/2024 10:53

Yes I agree. I have had to have police help numerous times over the years and the vast majority of officers I have had contact with have been helpful and supportive. They do a hard job and a good job overall

Thank you to the Police Flowers

Lady1576 · 07/08/2024 14:14

Yes thank you. I want to join a counter protest but am too scared to join with children. So thanks to the police for stepping in and doing the hard work!

I would like to as well, but I think it would make the police's job harder perhaps? I am hoping things fizzle out as soon as possible, and naively hope that may be if there's no-one to 'fight', these terrorists will quietly go home.

yes, they definitely deserve thanks.

lovemetomybones · 07/08/2024 16:15

Utterly agree, the police are amazing. 100 more riots predicted, I hope the police are safe and able to do their job without injury. It just shows how people put forward their lives for others. Society will recover, due to the incredible work tirelessly of the services x

mitogoshi · 07/08/2024 16:26

I echo thank you, I saw the riot van heading towards the city centre a couple of hours ago ready. Thankfully there seems to be a much bigger counter protest movement than thug movement here (apparently 4 times as many people turned out to protect the refugee hotel than the far right crowd).

IthinkIamAnAlien · 07/08/2024 16:34

Completely agree. I thought yesterday that if I came across a policeman or woman and the moment was right, I'd go up and say thanks directly to them. They put up with such a lot of sh*t.

I once had a hairdresser whose sister was a policewoman. She used to hand on hair raising stories. I once told her that I'd just done a longish, lone cycle ride and her reaction was 'omg, you wouldn't if I told you some of the things my sister tells me.'

ThursdayTomorrow · 07/08/2024 16:37

Yes, I’m extremely grateful to them. Such a difficult job, not many are brave enough (me included).
