Baby bath on a stand?

OlympicBlue · 06/08/2024 21:08

Redoing the bathroom and will be able to fit a baby bath on the work surface, but for now, what’s a decent baby bath on a stand to use standing?

I’ve seen the snuggle bath and stand, any alternatives?

Angle care baby bath on a worktop in the kitchen? I think I want one where a tiny baby doesn’t need to be held in place with two hands but they aren’t cold.

When tiny I either got in the bath with them or did it in the kitchen sink. I have never used a baby bath. As they got older I used the angelcare bath seat in the normal bath.

Speedweed · 08/08/2024 19:56

I was given an angelcare but didn't like it as I didn't like how 'folded up' my baby was on the bits which needed to be bathed. I gave it away and then just used a big, baby shaped sponge I got from boots to lie them on, slightly going up the slope of the bath and it worked beautifully as they could kick their legs and were lying on the warm, wet sponge.

I was glad I didn't get a baby bath as my little one was tall, so would have grown out of it in a couple of months maximum.

OlympicBlue · 08/08/2024 20:38

Thanks @Speedweed that makes sense about them being folded up and not being able to clean the nappy area/groin creases, will have another think!
@LuckysDadsHat cant use a regular bath or baby bath in a bath.
was thinking the kitchen sink with one of those flower shaped sponges maybe

We just used the kitchen sink. Much better for your back and can rinse baby off under the shower tap! Bonus of this is you have a baby who is chilled about showers. Always a winner when you hear the blood curdling screams in the swimming baths of the children having their first shower.

Babyboomtastic · 08/08/2024 20:59

We just brought baby into a cool bath with us

My mum bought me a fold up changing table, think it was from Amazon. It was about waist height when assembled and I used to put the baby bath on top of that. It was an absolute life changer for my achy back and c-section!!

OlympicBlue · 09/08/2024 20:38

@AgathaMystery did you use something like one of those sponge/flower looking inserts?
@Babyboomtastic will be doing that but also need an option for poonami changes during the day

Be careful having an slippy, wriggle baby and a heavy bowl of water balanced on a collapsible stand.

Is this to get you through a bathroom refit? Or longer term use??
I'd use a baby bath (or bucket) on the kitchen worksurface - or just the kitchen sink until you can use the bath or shower again.

HansBanans · 09/08/2024 20:59

We had the stokke flex. It came with a drain tube to attach to the plug so you could stand it next to the bath, pull the plug and all the water then drained into the bath (if that makes sense). The stand also had a safety lock. We loved it but baby outgrew it, definitely saved our backs for the few months we needed it tho

Mapletreelane · 09/08/2024 21:38

We were given a baby bath and stand. Used it once with the stand and never again. Trying to left a baby bath full of water on and off the stand was just ridiculous. I just used to put baby bath in bath and kneel over bath.

OlympicBlue · 09/08/2024 22:07

@DoublePeonies both, but a long term option as bending/kneeling over a bath isn’t an option. It has to be standing at waist height so maybe the kitchen sink or on the work surface is better.

...the stand is literally designed for it though? This is the one I had. It was very sturdy. It has a wooden board that slides in under the changing mat which supports a much greater weight than you'd expect.

The snuggle bath fitted in my normal sized kitchen sink!

Ponkpinkpink15 · 09/08/2024 23:16

When I couldn't bend over the big bath, I put the baby bath on the dining table. I'd put a bit of warm water in it (couldn't manage too much) then just add more with a jug & kettle. A bit of a faff, but kitchen sink wasn't big enough so ...

No I didn’t. Babies are robust and our house was (is) small and honestly - we had no space for stuff.

I see so, so much superfluous baby ‘essentials’ with my job (midwife) I wanted to just get by with what we had. And we did, it was fine. She was still getting in that sink aged 3!

Nappies were changed on inco/puppy pads and we had a shoebox filled with essentials for nappy changes downstairs. It was all absolutely fine. I’d do it the same way again.

mathanxiety · 10/08/2024 02:19

The kitchen sink is preferable imo.

Babies grow so fast.

mathanxiety · 10/08/2024 02:29

@AgathaMystery

Snap!

I used to lay the towel for the baby on the kitchen counter, close at hand, and put a folded towel along the side of the sink for my baby holding arm to rest comfortably on.

There was room on the counter for baby wash/ shampoo, and the older DCs could easily watch as there was space for them to pull up a chair.

I had a little roll-up changing pad that was made from washable sturdy nylon on one side and toweling on the other, slightly padded, with washable filling inside. It went in the washing machine and the dryer. I could use it everywhere and never had a changing table. I kept a 'hotel style' bath mat in the car for changes on the go.

OlympicBlue · 10/08/2024 16:35

Thanks, I think we’ll go with the sink and an insert and then a snuggle or bath on the counter I think. We’re not aiming to bath every day unless needed at nappy change so doesn’t need to be part of a bedtime routine as such to start with.
