Ds doesn't know which he would like to do? Which is more useful & easier to do well in?

Spanish is easier by a mile but DD much preferred French. As for which is more useful it completely depends on what he is planning to do in life and where he wants to travel.

My DC all do Spanish. I suppose it depends what countries they might be interested in, but Spanish is more widely spoken than French.

I teach both and I like both equally. They both have their difficulties but Spanish is very phonetic so is easy to learn how to pronounce. It is however spoken very quickly so that takes some getting used to. Where are you likely to go on holiday in the future? That might sway your decision.

I did Spanish in school and it’s done me much better than French. But I have little desire to travel to France and I regularly go to Spain and have been to several other Spanish speaking countries. I once got stranded in Senegal (my plane broke down 😩) and no one spoke a word of English in our hotel, so that’s the only time French would have been useful. I would have him think about where he’d like to travel or possibly work one day.

I disagree Spanish is easier. I did both French and Spanish A levels. Spanish is more widely spoken. I enjoyed it more, probably largely due to holidaying in Spain so getting the opportunity to practise more. I lived in Spain for a while too so it was very useful.

I did both at A level too and found Spanish much easier. I also went on to live in Spain after uni. Spanish is more widely spoken so I would go with that.
