Ok. I've been sitting in the sun for two hours doing this blasted thing now and I've only got one red face.

So the higher the number, the closer to the "chosen word" I am. And the words get rated depending on how frequently the word appears with "chosen word" in general text and dialect?

@StopInhalingRevels is the red face yours or a hot word?
If it's a hot word, it should have a number to the left of the yellow/orange bar. If you tell us that number, those of us who've finished can give you clues based on the word you have without spoiling it for those who don't have that word yet.

We can also give clues for the "sunglasses face" words if you tell us the number they correspond to.
On this thread, we crop actual words off any screenshot and show only numbers (as you'll see upthread).

Or, if you're like me, it's much quicker and easier to type the numbers - e.g.

Well. I just got word 998 which I have no idea what it means but it came up on predictive when I was trying to spell something else. FFS.

My best are 920, 986 and 990.

@StopInhalingRevels ... go back to 947 -- TARGET is the same length as that word, it also starts with the same two letters and end with the same two letters... ;)

@StopInhalingRevels a good 870 is in the 982 (876) but a great 870 is in the TARGET (876)
I know you don't have 876 but it's where 870s do their thing.

@MadisonAvenue the 990 is the TARGET 920.

Finally! Thank you for your clues, I'd have never ever made the association otherwise. In my brain it's more connected to my lower sunglasses words, but overall as my first time of playing I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you all! I shall try again tomorrow.

Are there any tips you can share as to generally doing these?

@StopInhalingRevels I start with general words like house, family, happy, food, work, water, science etc.
When I get either a hot word or something over about 20.00 I follow up with that theme, using Google for synonyms if necessary.
Anything under 100 guesses is a good day, there are some days when 100 guesses doesn't even get a hot word.
There are hellish days when the word is something mad like John (the worst one was "em") and the list is all names and swear words, that's usually when we're on here asking if it's "one of those days", but thankfully that's rare.
