What's a really reliable brand for toasters kettles etc

I don't want a massive chunky toaster as I don't have a lot of kitchen space, but I do want good quality.

Same with kettle.

Last set I bought a matching toaster & kettle as cheap as chips and they turned out to be really rubbish quality. Surprise surprise but I don't want to just buy something expensive on the basis of a higher price tag and end up with overpriced and poor quality rather than just poor quality.

What can I really rely upon?

I've always used Bosch.

Don't get a Dualit toaster - nothing but trouble.
I was fed up with electric kettles that lasted about a year and took up space on the kitchen counter so bought a lovely shiny stainless steel Le Creuset Kone stove top kettle from John Lewis. Have had it years and it's still going strong.

They come in lots of colours and the're on sale at the moment.

I don’t think spending more on toasters and kettles is worth it. The end result is the same - the toast is toasted and the water boils. We just buy the most pleasant looking ones from Tesco and they’re fine and last ages. The kettle is a black rapid boil one and is £13 I think…!

HappyAsASandboy · 05/08/2024 18:42

I've had my Dualit 4 slice toaster for 15 years and it is still going strong. One of the five elements stopped heating at about year 6 and I ordered a new element for about £11 but the original element started working again so o never changed it.

Dualit are British, the mechanics of their products are as simple as possible, they sell parts very cheaply and YouTube tells you how to replace the parts. They pride themselves on being repairable.

Not cheap to start with, but certainly made to last!

Can't comment on kettles!

We hav a 2 slice Bosch toaster.

It. Fits. A. Whole. Slice!!!!!

Radarkeigh · 05/08/2024 18:49

It's pot luck really. Morphy Richards were always OK.

I've got a smeg toaster and kettle that dh bought for me as a set about 8 years ago because I really fancied them and they are still going strong ☺️. When either dies they will be replaced with a different colour. They are gorgeous.

I agree with this. I've had the same basic Sainsbury's kettle since 2011, it's still going strong. Meanwhile, my parents have gone through at least half a dozen, all different brands, including some pretty expensive ones that heat to different temperatures and have other snazzy features. What's the point? All you want is something to boil water. As far as I can see, it's pot luck whether it lasts or not so might as well get the cheapest option.

My kettle (and one cup kettle) is Breville

Chillilounger · 05/08/2024 19:09

Bosch

CatsForLife · 05/08/2024 19:10

Kettles aren’t built to last so buy the one you like the look of in your budget. I have a Dualit toaster but was given it. I love it. Had one previously and they are so good. Also had a De’Longhi one which was brilliant. I gave it away when I got given the Dualit and it carried on going strong.

Was coming on to say smeg. Mines 10 years old and counting.

I have Delonghi kettle and toaster and found them to be very reliable and look quite nice too

LaWench · 05/08/2024 19:21

Morphy Richards are good. I get my toasters from Aldi & Lidl, they've always lasted years. I like "4" slice toasters that are 2 long slots as they are the only ones that take Warburtons.

My DH nearly keeled over when he saw the prices of toasters when ours broke earlier this year!
Breville had always served us well.

JoanThursday · 05/08/2024 19:28

My 4 slice classic dualit toaster is over 20 years old and still going strong.

When dh brought it home one day, I did shriek 'HOW much??'. But price per slice is now probably fractions of a penny.

Picklewicklepickle · 05/08/2024 19:33

I have a Dualit kettle and toaster still going strong after 12 years. The only thing I would change is to get a rapid boil kettle and swap the 2 slices for 4 but it’s not worth getting new ones when they’re still working so well.

Really? I've never had a problem with my Dualit toaster and kettle.

We’ve been thinking of getting one of these kettles, but worry it will take ages to boil - how do you find it?

TwistedSisters · 05/08/2024 20:24

I've had my DeLonghi 4 slice toaster for over 8 years and it's fine.

je11ycats · 05/08/2024 20:26

Smeg here too! They look lovely but more importantly they do their job and do it well. Big bread fits in the toaster (sideways) too.

BeaRF75 · 05/08/2024 20:28

Dualit toaster - will last you a lifetime. Nothing else is half as good.

QuantumPanic · 05/08/2024 20:28

Love our dualit toaster. Very, very expensive, but made in the UK and can be repaired. Also has few plastic parts.

Blarn · 05/08/2024 20:31

I've had a Tefal toaster for nearly 20 years, still toasts really evenly. I think we are on our second kenwood kettle in about 12 years so happy with that too!
