Shaken up, just choked on my own

Stood outside train station eating a (very dry) egg sandwich waiting on bus home after a long day at work, a long weekend and a long week last week too. I had a panic attack this morning, and had nightmares all last night.

Sandwich got stuck on swallowing and I couldn’t move it; swallow it or breathe - only severe pain and a horrible gurgling noise.

Somehow vomited it up, and managed to get my breathe back but it’s given me
a horrible shock. Nobody was around and I felt so stupid I didn’t want
to flag down a car.

My throat still feels weird now, but I’m breathing and sipping water - just
petrified of eating. I don’t need urgent care do I? Nothing they can do I guess.

I've done the same. You'll have strained your throat but it will recover in a short time.

Keep sipping water, if hungry try soup (not very hot), or ice cream to soothe.

When you're home have a lye down and try to relax. Ibuprofen will help (when you're confident you can swallow them).

Terrifying! I just heard something about choking on the radio and it advised that you should make yourself as visible and public as possible ie don’t leave your restaurant table and go to the loo because you are embarrassed; stay where you can be helped; if choking at home go outside where you can be seen. In your case: don’t feel stupid; flag down a car.

Obviously of no help to you now but just posting for others.

i don’t know if you should consult urgent care. I guess it’s not needed. But you must be terribly shaken. Hope you will feel back to normal soon.

You would rather die than flag down a car?

There’s a movement you can do, on your own, to dislodge the blockage. Similar to the Heimlich manoeuvre. I think it involves getting on all fours and then dropping flat on the floor, but I can’t remember. Probably we should all look into it further for future reference.

There was a recent thread about this - some people said they'd managed to dislodge the blockage by banging their chest on sinks, chair backs and similar.
