People pitying me for not having a summer holiday

It's getting a bit annoying now.

Since the lead up to the school summer holidays, I've had people asking me if I'm going away during the summer. When I tell them no they look at me like they feel sorry for me. Of course I will take the dc on days out, and we're having a lot of fun doing that. We also went away at Easter. We're just not having a "summer holiday".

Anyone have a good reply I can give when the next person asks me? Something to make them realise we're happier to go away when it's a bit cooler (always in UK) and we are perfectly happy having days out in the summer rather than a big holiday.

I do tell them we went away earlier this year, but for some people it's like that doesn't count. It's like they think you MUST go on holiday in the summer.

Say - no we had our holiday in April - I find the summer too hot. What about you? Where did you go?

honestly I doubt anyone cares when you holiday: this is small talk material. Ask them questions about their holiday and the convo will quickly move on.

I have the same issue, especially from my three holidays a year sister so I hear you. We haven't been away for years due to financial stuff.

But I just say that I've organised loads of stuff for the holidays and it'll be like a holiday but we sleep at home. I then reel off stuff I've planned such as crabbing, beach trip, visit to a castle etc etc and that shuts them up 😆

I've no shame in not spending £2k on a week in a poxy caravan in Cornwall and get my lovely bed at the end of the day. DC very happy and not at all bothered.

Don't let it bother you.

I think it depends on what you do.

We once went over the Easter break and said we only do a short weekend trip and some day trips in Summer.

The 6 weeks were sooooo long. We spent a fortune to do things outside the house.

The next time we did a holiday over Easter, we budgeted for a week away in Summer to break up the long time.

"Yes, it's awful, isn't it? Perhaps you could pay for us to come on holiday with you then".

😂
