Tutoring Rates

I hope someone can help me to set my tutoring rates.
I would be tutoring History and maybe French, so not a core subject and therefore price needs to reflect this I suppose.
I am based near Birmingham. The rate has to.reflect the fact I'm paying tax on anything earned too.
Does anyone mind advising on this? Much appreciated

Between £30 and £60 per hour.
Upper end if you are a qualified teacher with recent experience of GCSE specs.

Your best bet may be to do local search and see what the local going rate is.

Thank you for taking the time to.answer.

Yes, doing some local research would be the best thing but it mostly seems to be through agencies. I don't want to approach the few tutors who are working individually pretending to be a parent. Seems wrong.

Thanks again

Hi, I charge £40 per session for 11+ and G.C.S.E. English. I also provide all books for students and have a feedback session with parents after every lesson. I could probably charge more, but am satisfied with that. 🙂

You could def do this if not in competition with them due to teaching different subjects, you might even get referrals. (ie When a parent asks a Maths tutor 'you don't happen to know a French tutor do you?')

£40+ per 50 minutes is the going rate here in Surrey (face to face Primary). There are a couple of very helpful and supportive Facebook groups - grow your tutoring business into a full time job and Twinkl private tutors - worth looking at.

I paid £45 ph for Maths and English GCSE tuition fee or DC until he passed GCSE last year. I'm in West Midlands. His tutor was fantastic with him.

What are your qualifications and are you teaching primary, GCSE, A levels?

Wms123 · 14/12/2024 21:00

Between £30-60. Some tutoring agencies operate split payments and you are paid directly from the Student. Might be worth signing up with a few to generate additional demand for you. I’ve noticed School Tutors co uk employ on this basis and appear to be recruiting. Hope this helps.
