Rental question

I wasn’t sure where to put this. we just want some advice please

My daughter rents a nice town centre flat with her boyfriend and 5 month old baby. It’s on the third floor but has a lift

The trouble is the lift has been out of order for nearly two months. She’s done everything she can re letting the management company know, estate agent etc, and she keeps getting messages to say it will be fixed on certain days, and then that day passes.

Im a bit worried about her. Her boyfriend works 6 days a week, and my daughter’s very isolated. Going out involves three trips up and down the stairs (once with pram chassis, once with the top bit, and once with the baby) so she only does it about once a week. She bought a baby carrier thing, but he absolutely hates it.

Do you have any rights when you rent a property with a lift? People keep saying to her she should ask for compensation but we’ve no idea if it’s a thing. Also if there WAS compensation, would it just go to her landlady (the flats belong to individuals)? It would be brilliant if they’d give her enough to buy a decent lightweight pushchair that she could bump up and down the stairs. They don’t have any spare money - their rent is extortionate.

They rented a property in the town centre thinking she’d be able to wander round the shops, baby groups, the library, and parks, but she’s more like a prisoner at the moment

All she can do is ask her landlady about compensation however legally they don't have to give her anything.

A lightweight pushchair is cheap, she could even find one on Facebook. People tend to give these away.

I was looking at lightweight pushchairs from birth (he’s not quite 5 months) and they’re not that cheap, but Facebook market place is a great idea, thank you. It’s a shame he can’t use the expensive travel system she bought but it’s really heavy.

I thought that round probably be the case re compensation, it was only that so many people suggested it!

It’s a real shame about the lift. There’s another couple with a baby on her floor and an elderly man. It’s really hard

Try cosatto pushchairs, they are super lightweight and can be picked up cheap. I had them for mine when they got to that age. Great for stairs and small car boots! 😊
