Manchester Pride

Has anyone got any experience of going in previous years? I would love to see the parade and DD one of the headliners.
Does anyone know what time the headliners are on/finish? I expect it will be incredibly busy so wondering if DDs age 12 and 10 would be OK to go and actually see anything!

I wouldn't take children to Pride.

Wrapunzel · 03/08/2024 19:18

I'm a Manchester resident and no way would take my kids. It's an adult thing.

I’m taking my kids. They have a family pride event and the parade, usually at the Great Northern. The acts/headliners are definitely evening events and I know it’s a huge party, but with anything (not because it’s Pride), it’s more focused for adults. The parade is fine any of the acts or evening activities are not for families

luckylavender · 03/08/2024 20:24

In Brighton loads of children go.

In Brighton loads of children go.

That doesn't mean it is ok. There are some things that really aren't suitable for children.

luckylavender · 04/08/2024 06:41

@porridgecake - of course the parade is suitable for children

FredaFox · 04/08/2024 07:17

The parade is fine, I wouldn't take kids to see the performers, it might even be over 18s
It gets extremely busy before I even consider what they might see

Manchester Pride can be a bit adult for kids. Didsbury Pride on 31st August is in south Manchester and is very family friendly (also very popular so be prepared for crowds). It's a few minutes walk from the Didsbury Village tram stop.

Pride is absolutely rammed especially the saturday. I dont know what the previous posters think kids are going to see - men or women snogging😱😂, a bit of leather , god forbid!

The street party and concert are tame enough for kids its just how packed it is in the village that you might worry about

Tickety123 · 04/08/2024 14:26

Thanks so much everyone, it confused me as you can buy a family ticket for the acts which covers kids.

It's not that, I don't care about PDAs. My DC live in urban south Manchester and don't bat an eyelid at gay or lesbian parents/couples.
It's men with fetishes/hard ons/furries that kids shouldn't be around. Safeguarding rather than prudishness Hmm

Never seen anyone with a hard on at pride.

Dressing as furries is just fancy dress to kids unless you explain it, isnt it?

Onehotday · 10/08/2024 20:27

Unless you enjoy exposing your children to adults who are either completely naked or dressed in fetish gear, I can't imagine why the hell you'd want to take them.
