Please help identify these spots/bites

On DD's knees. They don't seem to bother her.

Any ideas? The single one does look mosquito-like but the two really close to each other look very much like what I can find online for bed bugs.

I suffer from anxiety and OCD mainly around infestations (bed bugs in particular) so I'm trying really hard to apply my CBT techniques but struggling.

Help!

I would assume all mosquito. I have similar bites on my ankles fro the other night (UK).

twomanyfrogsinabox · 02/08/2024 19:29

Any number of nasty little biters at the minute, I'm getting bitten regularly some probably mosquito others midges and others unidentified flying bity things. Take antihistamine tablets if they get inflamed or itchy.

Thank you that's reassuring. I've definitely seen quite a few mosquitos in the house so fingers crossed it's just that.

The 2 next to each other just threw me a bit with being so close to each other and a cluster of three. The knees also seem such an odd location, she has no other bite anywhere else.

Last summer I had a bite in the middle of my bloody forehead.... Probably the only thing showing outside my duvet at the time!

I once had 17 bites in 3" x 1" area on my ankle after missing the area with DEET in Sri Lanka.... Massively itchy and swollen ankle for an fortnight!

And about 4 in a row up my back last year where it was probably caught under my top.

Mozzies are opportunistic. And absolute wankers.

MulberryBushRoundabout · 02/08/2024 21:01

The two together look exactly like mosquito bites to me.

I normally get them in a line, where the bugger walks along snacking as it goes. But often have two together like that. I’m very attractive to mozzies, apparently!

Anxietytime6 · 02/08/2024 21:22

Thank you so much! I don't really get bitten by mosquitos (they favour DH), and DD is only two so I don't really have much to compare it to but maybe that's how she reacts to mosquito bites.

When I hear them buzzing around the room at night I don't even bother looking for them as I know they don't bite me! 😅

But now you say that, when DH has been eaten alive in the past he's often had a few clustered together.

Fingers crossed she had a rogue one in her room and that will be the end of it.

Midges, gnats and blandford fly bites are all just as likely as mosquitoes. Bed bug bites tend to appear in a row, so I don't think it's that, and they don't look like flea bites either.

Anxietytime6 · 04/08/2024 21:04

Thank you, my anxious mind thought since it was a grouping of 3, it was close enough to bed bugs but you are right they are not really in a row. I have had a few nasty bites from Blandford flies in the garden previously. Hopefully just that!

Back on this thread as I've still been obsessing since and now other DD and I have bites.

DD1's are the last 2 pictures, all on her legs. Some look white and very raised, very odd.

Other picture is my arm, I was woken in the night by DD2 and my arm itched and I saw a bite. It's merely just a pimple now, but it also looks like there are 2 more faint ones next to it.

I wouldn't have realised if I hadn't woken in the night and scratched it so maybe I'm getting bitten loads every night and don't realise it?

I'm now convinced we have a terrible bed bug infestation, I can't find another explanation for all these things...

It's been consuming my mind all week and everything has felt so overwhelming. I'm constantly checking and inspecting my skin and the beds....

At this time of year my mind goes to spider bite or ant bites before mosquitoes (or midges), then flea bites. DD could easily have carried an ant into the house if she's been sitting in the grass.

Strip your bed and have a look in the cracks of the base and headboard as that is where bedbugs hide during the day. Otherwise strip and wash bedding and beat the cushions on your sofa which is where ants and spiders end up being deposited by humans (and pets).

Mespher · 09/08/2024 21:37

DH had a group of ten on his upper arm, he reckons a mossie type fly got trapped in his tee shirt sleeve.

Anxietytime6 · 09/08/2024 21:43

Thank you, I have been checking the beds endlessly and can't see a thing. We did find mites in the garden this week though, no idea if they are a type that bites. DD put her blanket on the grass and 2 or 3 were crawling over it.

In previous summers we have had the odd flea make its way into the house (probably through the washing), and some of my bites do look a bit like this but not all. We don't have any pets so I would also expect it would have died by now.

This is mental torture for me, I just need to know!

I never realise how pimple my skin was, now I'm paying attention all I can see is pimples!

@Mespher 10!!

Struggling to sleep as I can't stop worrying about what's lurking in my room!

Could it be molluscum contagium rather than bites - lots of info and pics online to check if it fits

Anxietytime6 · 10/08/2024 07:08

I did wonder this about some of DD1's bites as they look a bit blistery.

She just woke up and showed me a bite between her fingers so now I'm also worried about scabies. I don't think a mosquito would reach there.

Don't know what to think anymore!

Did you get to the bottom of this at all?

Anxietytime6 · 19/08/2024 23:29

No but no new bites in the last week so I've calmed down a bit.

I think it was a perfect storm of lots of different things.

We figured out DD1's weird spots on her legs were from the courgette leaves at the bottom of the garden.

The mites in the garden were bird mites (which bite) and I found one inside the house by the double doors so they may well have caused a few.

And I keep regularly finding mosquitoes in the bedrooms.

I'm still checking for bed bugs every couple of days but no signs so fingers crossed!
