My mouth is SO painful!

Since around mid-march my lips have become suddenly cracked, dry almost as if they've been burnt. It hurts to open my mouth wide, to eat, drink-hot drinks are agonising.

I also have a random what looks like a cold sore but isn't, in the corner of my mouth, and two white spots on the tip of my tongue. I also have what i thought was a blocked salivary gland but it isn't, according to my dentist- I went to the dentist yesterday and he did two X rays (normal one then a more thorough one) to see if any signs of infection or other signs and nothing. But there's a lump just on my jawbone, quite hard, not fixed, moves about if I touch it and it is slighly painful.

Any idea what the lump could be, and any idea what I can do to help my lips heal? I have no idea what has caused all the soreness, ulcers on my tongue (if that's what they are!) or any of it-never happened before! I've been using petroleum jelly for my lips but seconds after I apply it, they've soaked it up. Constantly dabbing it on-they must be so dry!

TIA.

A steroid cream would help but only use a low percentage on your face.

Two other possibilities as to what it could be - candida or another fungus, I get the cracked corners of the mouth thing if I have a couple of beers. Also be mindful of food intolerances, especially if there's any family connection. I get bad ulcers with strawberries and most nuts. Tomato can be another bad one. Pineapple as someone else said.

What does that involve?

No sugar, starch, carbs at all just protein and fat. It works to lose weight, but wonder if it is having other unsavoury side effects for my body. Some people, it allegedly really doesn't agree with.

Gluten sensitivity causing ..

Iron deficiency due to poor absorption

B12 deficiency due to poor absorption

dollopz · 02/08/2024 21:46

It’s probably a vitamin deficiency due to vegan diet. The NHS acceptable range is so very low, you can be incredibly poorly but dismissed as fine in the U.K.

Do not take B12 tablets before blood testing. They will give false healthy results.

I had a lot of oral symptoms before being diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I’m not saying you’ve got that but this could be linked to something like that, tests from the gp are the way to go rather than guessing and trying to solve it.

I don’t know what the connection with toothpaste is exactly but my mouth is a lot better when I use ‘ calm ‘ toothpaste
normally around £5 but can often get it in special offer for £2.50
also how is your iron , low iron can cause cracks and sites at the corners of your lips

Thank you, I am going to try that. I told my dentist yesterday that my gums were so sensitive that I was struggling to brush my teeh Sad this is so odd in that I've never had an issue like this before.

Have you changed toothpaste? Some contain higher levels of sodium Laurel sulphate that can cause sore moth and lips. Try switching to Sensodyne.

YogaForDummies · 03/08/2024 01:16

A sore mouth especially at the corners is a classic synptom of iron deficiency. It's a simple blood test, but be careful because NHS ranges are generally really low so make sure you look over thr results yourself.
As a pp has said, coeliac disease is another possibility, and the presence of that can also cause iron/folate deficiency due to absorption issues.

Thank you again-just a question, would a steroid cream help with the cuts on my lips? It helped with the cuts on my 'other' lips too much information😂

No it will thin the skin out and possibly make it worse.
