Career as Speech & Language Therapist or Dietitian

I’m a SAHM with a 1 year old, and planning to have another baby in the next 2 years, hopefully.

I’m enjoying being at home with my DS for the most part and feel really lucky that I am able to do so, but I’m also struggling a bit with boredom and feeling like I want to work towards a career, perhaps for when my DC are in school.

I’m an ex teacher (EYFS & SEN mainly) with no desire to return to the classroom so looking to retrain.

I’m really interested in SLT and feel I have some experience that would be valuable, having worked in SEN and worked alongside SLTs in the past. I loved working with children and particularly supporting children with additional needs, I find this work to be extremely rewarding and so important.

In my personal life I am really interested in food, healthy eating and how the foods we eat impact our health and well-being. I have struggled with gut issues and acne, which means I’ll often read up on or listen to podcasts about gut health and diets and I find it all very interesting, I’m sure a career as a dietitian would also be very rewarding and maybe it would be nice to branch out and work with adults (although I know this is an option for SLT too as it’s a very diverse role)

I’d love to hear from anyone who has trained in either profession. Do you enjoy it? What are the main challenges? What are the positives? And also I wonder would either one be more likely to be family friendly - I will probably need to work part time as my DH has an intense job with little flexibility so school pickups and drops offs etc will be on me for the most part.
