Any tips on keeping it tidy down there, without the raging shaving rash?
Not interested in professional waxing.

Nail scissors - be careful & shaving the edges!

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 02/08/2024 17:26

I just whack some hair removal cream on my muff. Usually at the same time I do my legs and underarms. Only when I go on holiday though. The rest of the time I couldn't give two hoots. I'm lucky though. I have fair hairs on my legs and my underarms unless you look mega closely I can get away with not shaving for a few weeks. I did try and epilator once. Found it quite therapeutic on my legs. Under arms and Fanjo not so much 😅

Kneehighsocks · 02/08/2024 17:32

Slimline beard trimmers are the best, you can go to a number one/ two- so short but with a bit of growth so you don’t get stubble rash. Can also a do more of cropped look with a longer cut, then use a razer for the knicker line.

Epillator.
I must have a high pain threshold as it doesn't bother me. Epillator has a buzz cut head on it.

One of these and it takes a couple of mins every couple of weeks

Is it a wet and dry type?
This is very similar to the Wilkinson sword trimmer that comes with a razor on the other side.

marshmallowfinder · 02/08/2024 17:42

I trim it with a little battery operated trimmer. The Wilkinson Sword Quattro bikini trimmer. (Not razor.) It does a great job and keeps the lawn very nicely mown. No rash as it's not removing absolutely everything, just taking it lovely and short and comfortable.

Had mine removed by laser (the bits I was having waxed) also had under arms and lega done too. No unwanted hair at all now.

Thanks for the suggestions. Just a normal razor (wet shave) at the moment but as infrequently as possible due to the awful skin reaction!

Just to reiterate - I don't want any professional treatments (embarrassment factor).

Why are you embarrassed? They've seen pubes before.

totalnamechanger · 02/08/2024 20:38

Phillips IPL?

Do you have a link please? Or favourite brand?

It's ancient must have had it 20 years the brand has robbed off. It has a leg head as well but I don't use that. I imagine Braun or Boots, it looks like a b word

I’ve used it wet and dry though wet is a bit easier going.

Mapleunicorn · 02/08/2024 23:06

I know it’s ££££ but Philips Lumea is a total game changer. Rashes used to be the bane of my life. Tried all sorts and also couldn’t bear the thought of in salon waxing. This was my answer

Cobblersorchard · 02/08/2024 23:07

Epilator, takes a while to get used to but decades in its great, doesn’t really grow back any more.

Bearpawk · 02/08/2024 23:10

I've got a Phillips lumea IPL and it's been life changing. Wish I had it in my 20s.
Only works on dark hair and Caucasian skin - You do have to shave first then use it on freshly shaved skin. But then it only grows back half as much each time until it's gone. I just used sudacream afterwards to help with any stubble rash.

hobbledyhoy · 02/08/2024 23:13

@Bearpawk I've been coveting one of these for ages but been put off due to the expense - which one do you have?

1apenny2apenny · 02/08/2024 23:16

Phillips Lumea. In the meantime smother with sudocreme after shaving.

OlympicsFanGirl · 01/08/2024 17:44

Leave it as nature intended

Would you have all the hair on display if you went swimming or wore a bikini on the beach? Just wondering how people get by with no care about a big bush.

RLouiseH · 02/08/2024 23:39

I use woowoo hair removal cream.
I find it so much nicer than the more common ones like hair and veet. Smells much better and doesn’t burn the same if left on a little longer. I wouldn’t go back!

Although am intrigued by the Philips thing a few of you hve mentioned. Does it hurt? I have a really low pain threshold!!!!

totalnamechanger · 03/08/2024 06:20

RLouiseH I’ve only consistently used it on my legs (ie done the whole course and now don’t have any leg hair) and didn’t really find it painful. Much less painful than the epilady and waxing. It flashes a light and you get a kind of flick sensation, in some places that feels a bit stronger than others. Some days I felt it more than others- it’s the same with plucking my eyebrows. You can turn the strength down. You have to do the ipl on a schedule and stick to the recommended schedule. It comes with an app. I found it boring and annoying but am extremely happy with the result. Not only are my legs hairless, the skin is very smooth. Much much more so than when I shaved or waxed when I’d usually have bumps of some kind. I bought mine on a Black Friday deal at Boots about 4 years ago. It’s so effective that you should probably just loan the machine or pass it on because it’s permanent. (Unless the hair starts growing back after 7 years and I don’t know about it!)

I only used it once on my bikini line as it’s an awkward area and I don’t go swimming much and couldn’t really be bothered but I’m likely to do it again. This area was more sensitive but I think it’s more that the flash and flick were more disconcerting in that area!

jaimelesoleil · 03/08/2024 06:37

Wet shave with a Venus razor using hair conditioner. Never have an issue with shaving rash using this method. I go Hollywood, all off.

You’d need a bloody big candle to waft my 🦡

🤣

toptopiary · 03/08/2024 08:53

Thanks all, looks like an electric razor/ beard trimmer is the best option. I've tried home waxing and also epilating legs - never again to both!

Nothing to do with pubes. You must have missed the part where I said I have labial hypertrophy.

Compare a small thin crust Margherita pizza to an extra large stuffed crust meat feast with extra cheese and pepperoni and you might have some idea what I'm dealing with.

It also means hair removal creams are difficult to use.

RandomMess · 03/08/2024 09:02

Just trim with nail scissors.

DiscoBeat · 03/08/2024 09:15

I use a trimmer and keep it very very short. Occasionally razor it smooth but not often.
