Dock and bay beach towels. Are they worth it?

We are just taking hand luggage for our holiday this year so I'm very conscious of space. We need to take beach towels so I'm considering buying a dock and bay towel to save space. They cost more than I would usually spend and we have perfectly good beach towels already but they are bulky. Are they any good?

I think they are quite good. The best beach towels we have are the fairly cheap ones off Amazon microfibre lightweight

Theredjellybean · 01/08/2024 15:57

Definitely not worth the money.
Look nice and the sand did seem to shake off mine easily but it didn't dry me well and took ages to dry.
I left it hanging over a door in hotel room and it was still damp the next day.

I use on when I go swimming and we take one each when we go away on holiday. I think they are excellent.

TK Maxx tend to do them for under a tenner but I prefer the thin, cotton turkish style towels. They might be slightly bulkier but they dry properly and don’t feel squeaky iykwim.

Movinghouseatlast · 01/08/2024 16:02

I think they are good. So do other people as someone stole mine from the washing line outside my apartment!

Any hammam towel will be good though. I have some White Company ones that have lasted years.

custardlover · 01/08/2024 16:04

They're great. Get cheaper ones and I'm sure they are adequate but the Dpck and Bay ones don't harbour sand, are slightly thicker but fold up neat and tight. They are almost silk in texture and feel very nice. I think they're totally worth it.

Jeezitneverends · 01/08/2024 16:05

I've had mine a few years and used it loads. DH has an "off brand" one from Amazon, and it isn't as good-a d despite about a million washes still lets off dye 🤬

Onthegrid · 01/08/2024 16:07

I have a set of Hanman towels that are 8 years old from Amazon they are great for the beach. I also have microfibre towels again from amazon and decathlon. With Dock and Bay you pay brand premium and they aren’t better

Bjorkdidit · 01/08/2024 16:07

They're still a bit bulky. I'm not that impressed. I like the hammann towels, but there's also a few options in Decathlon that are good, lightweight, quick drying and cheap.

APurpleSquirrel · 01/08/2024 16:10

We have Dock & Bay beach towels - they're not the most absorbent but dry quickly & fold neatly. They've lasted us for about 6 six years & so doing good.

afaloren · 01/08/2024 16:12

I love ours, we bought the cover ups too.

TheBizzies · 01/08/2024 16:14

Get Turkish towels off amazon

I now use them as my family towels as well even in winter! They really are excellent

mitogoshi · 01/08/2024 16:21

I have microfibre towels which pack a lot smaller than that for a fraction of the price. But I would consider - can't you source cheap towels there?

Wowzel · 01/08/2024 16:22

I really like mine, we've used them a lot - and the poncho too

HermioneMedal · 01/08/2024 16:23

We have them, but never reach for them for swimming- we all prefer the 'hamman towels' from amazon which get you drier quicker. They're much more absorbent and dry quicker too.

toastofthetown · 01/08/2024 16:28

Does anyone on the thread have link to a hamman towel they liked? Results on Amazon are overwhelming!

Cem82 · 01/08/2024 16:31

We like them! We use them for the beach in the UK too as it saves carrying loads of stuff. I find that if I hang them out on the line they’re usually dry in the morning.

elizabethcharlotte · 01/08/2024 20:57

Thank you for all the replies. I might try some hamman towels from Amazon instead.

I agree. I hate the squeaky feel of microfibre. We have a few Foutalas and a few cheapish TK Max ones and they have lasted years. Work as sarongs etc too.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 01/08/2024 21:23

We've all got Dock and Bay and really rate them we've had ours years and they'll be getting packed again for our weekend camping tomorrow.

TheArtfulScreamer1 · 01/08/2024 21:24

Brand alley also quite often have them on offer.
