Worried about what this means from GP…”needs to read results”

I’ve had some unusual vaginal bleeding so dr recommended swabs, done last week. Called today and was told results were back but dr has to “read them first’. Does that mean I should be worried? Now I’m panicking ira something bad.
also im not even sure what the swabs were testing for, does anyone know?
please talk me down….

Don’t panic. A receptionist can’t give out results until a doctor has seen and commented on them.

No - this is very standard. The results come in to the patient record electronically and are provisional until the doctor has seen them and approved them and commented on them.

It means they are somewhere in the Doctor's in-box and they haven't got to them yet.

No more than that.

So even if all clear and test was to say ‘negative’ dr still needs to check them?

Yes OP.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/08/2024 12:05

Yes, completely normal practice.

Very normal. I once read a report from an ultrasound I had. Totally normal. Then got a message that the doctor had reviewed my report and wanted to see me, please make an appointment. Even though I'd seen the report I worried. Called in to be told it was all normal. Argh.

Yes

Hi OP, that's completely normal. Usually the receptionists at the practice I go to say 'Dr has checked and all fine, or has no comment'. If there is anything to discuss then the doctors phone the patient themselves as has happened with DH recently (all good thankfully, but just needed to discuss DEXA result in conjunction with other test results, just to give you an idea).
