Thinking about getting more (have lobes done), but want to start off with the least painful....

Thank you :)

Hello! I see that you haven't had many comments, so thought I'd give one a go. My current setup is:
Left: 2 lobes, conch, helix + rook
Right: 4 lobes, conch, tragus and faux industrial

Of course, pain is individual so you might think the complete opposite, but if you would like the most tolerable I would opt for a helix. Out of all "extra" piercings, it's in the area with the thinnest cartilage so there's less pressure as the needle goes through. That said, healing can be a bit more of a pain if you're one to constantly brush your hair without thought towards it.
To be honest with you, I barely noticed when my piercer had completed this one since it was so painless but that could also be due to some of the adrenaline you have beforehand? Either way, ALL piercings have a pain that lasts under 5 seconds, if that. Any other pain is down to your care for it in the next 6-12 months while it heals (just some saline solution x2 daily).
I hope this helps a bit! Let us know which one you end up with!

*Also, most other piercings are anatomy-dependent, but a helix pretty much is available to all. At least that would been you don't get yourself hyped up for a tragus and realise your ears aren't even suitable! Best of luck :)

i barely felt my tragus, forward helix wasn't too bag either.

the worst was my daith, but i think it's because i have small ears, so whilst the piercing itself wasn't too bad, it took quite a bit of fiddling to get the earring in.

daith. Couldn’t sleep on the side it was on for months. In the end it fell out and I kept it out! It was such a relief to have it gone (had it done for migraines as my neurologist recommended I gave it a go)

I found daith pretty pain free but conch awful.

You might get better input from the MN Tattoo board. Technically it’s about tattoos but there are posts about piercings too. Obviously it has a smaller following than “Chat” but probably more peeps in the know.

I think anything with a more 'complicated' bit of ear is likely to be worse, as the piercer might have to maneuver more rather than quickly push through, probs depends on ear shape too. My rook was agony as couldn't be done in one go and is the only piercing I wouldnt redo. conch pulsed a lot afterwards but was quick. Tragus, forward helix, flat, helix all fine. Helix is more likely to snag on things, which you might want to bear in mind.

WhyDoesItAlways · 07/08/2024 13:03

I don't think it makes any difference. All piercings I've had have been so quick I couldn't tell you which hurt more.

Healing on the other hand is another issue. By far the hardest and most painful healing piercing for me was the forward helix. Had a bad headache for the day afterwards and then suffered with pain if I accidentally slept on that side until about a year after having it done. Tragus and faith both healed lovely.

ButtSurgery · 07/08/2024 13:05

Piercings don't really hurt for longer than a split second.

The healing on the other hand.... I have a 3wk old helix and it's pissing me off as I keep catching my damn hair in it! Looking forward to when I can reduce the length of the bar.

I'm surprised so many struggled with daith - I have both done for migraine (made zero difference!) but they healed really quickly. My helix piercings do tend to heal very slowly - my first one took about 3 bloody years!
