It was a hole left by the Conservatives though:
There’s a hole in finances, dear Rishi, dear Rishi,
There’s a bloody big debt, dear Rishi, big debt.

Good analogy actually as the point of money is to keep flowing, it isn't a fixed and finite bucketful.

Indeed, like the public sector pay rises.

I know a lot of teachers, nurses and doctors, and not a single one is going to be investing their pay-rise in a SIPP, a trust fund for the kids, or off-shoring it to the Cayman islands - at least 30% will be going straight back in taxes and the rest will be paying off debts, or doing work to their houses that has been put off for 15 years.

Exactly, and I for one will be pleased with the improved public services that would result. My quality of life won't be improved by more 'austerity' or more stuff.

They complain there’s a hole in the budget but Miliband has pledged to give away £11.6bn in climate aid to other countries and the increase in junior doctors pay will cost a couple of bn so. But ofcourse, let’s blame it on the Tories 🙄

paperrockscissors · 31/07/2024 19:17

Let’s pick on the pensioners instead of taxing the super rich…

qwerty14 · 31/07/2024 19:51

Milliband is subsidising the wind farm industry by 1.5 billion.

https://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/news/AN_1722405565486573700/funds-for-new-uk-clean-power-schemes-in-boost-to-record-gbp15-billion.aspx

"But it needs to be followed up with an even bigger auction next year, faster grid connections, and more storage to hold the green power for when it's needed."

That's the problem though the technology to store the wind farm produced electricity does not exist and so you need to duplicate the grid with a back up power system that will switch back and forth, also a wind turbine only lasts 20 years and is made in China and shipped accross the sea.
The companies are notorious for not costing in the end of life costs for the windmills as this clip shows, the blades are fiberglass and can just end up as a 'graveyard' of non-recyclables.
We should expect costs to be much higher than this when everything is costed in.
