Very high positive FIT test - frightened and need some support

Hi everyone. I am a regular poster but have name changed for this. I am just looking for some support because I can't talk about this with my husband/children around right now. Apologies for the TMI in advance. I was really unwell with a stomach bug for about 2 weeks. It caused bad diarrahea and bleeding. After 2 weeks it appeared to settle down but the docteur ordered a FIT test which came back with a high positive of >200. I am very frightened now as have to have an urgent colonoscopy to rule out bowel cancer. I wondered if the infection was still causing inflammation and bleeding but I am really really freaked out. Does anyone have any experience of this or words of wisdom? I think I just need someone to talk to as the anxiety is driving me mad.

I googled a FIT testing leaflet

A positive FIT test will tell your doctor that you have bleeding occurring somewhere in your gastrointestinal tract. This blood loss could be due to ulcers, bulges, polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, haemorrhoids (piles), swallowed blood from bleeding gums or nosebleeds, or it could be due to early bowel cancer.

So there are many other things that could have caused the positive and a colonoscopy will make things clearer.

About this time a year ago. I was unwell for a number of weeks. Had a FIT test which came back very high. Turned out to be food poisoning. Then had another FIT test still high but not as high as before. Had a colonoscopy, all was fine and normal. I was told it was the food poisoning which had caused the high result.

Thanks both - appreciate you positing and @muchwanted for sharing your very similar story! It’s just helping to “talk” a bit so I can hold it together for the kids
