About to qualify as children’s nurse but no jobs

I’m in Scotland and next week I’ll complete my final placement and qualify as a children’s nurse.
However where I am there is no jobs. I’m sitting on a holders list as I passed an interview but from what I’ve heard there is unlikely to be any positions in the near future.
I’m gutted, I have been told there will likely be temporary contracts offered over winter but I have two children and a mortgage and finances have been a struggle this last year.
Can anyone recommend any jobs that being a qualified nurse would be of benefit too? Particularly a children’s nurse. I’m having a blank but I really do need a steady stable job and quite quickly.

Thanks for all your replies, there’s a few ideas I hadn’t considered. I applied for some trainee HV roles but was told I needed experience post qualifying to apply.
I previously worked in childcare and I’m qualified so I can pick up work there, it’s just I’d hoped to start a job in nursing. Just disheartening after a lot of hard work.

You were misinformed, you don't need post reg experience. I trained as a HV immediately post qualifying this year.

One of the trusts I applied for had 2 year post reg experience on their essential crieria and I still got an interview and was offered a place.

I'd look into this for next year, some uni's do a January intake so look into that too.

You should look into bang 5 HV staff nurse post, band 5 school nurse staff nurse posts or band 4 community nursery nurse posts.

@Toffeepancakes Were there lots of jobs when you started training? I think it’s an issue with specialising. If you did general, would you get a no ? Also many grads have to mine for work. That’s pretty standard.

Nurses jobs exist in boarding schools. They do employ them. School nurse?

Nanny for a child with complex health needs?

@Toffeepancakes I don't post often, but if you've been at QEH in the last year and a half I can only say thank you for the care that's been given to my DC from a newborn, I'm absolutely shocked about the job deficit for you all.

Hi Op, it’s a tricky one as you probably need to complete a preceptorship or some post reg training
for a lot of the suggestions given.
School nursing requires some more experience and usually some safeguarding experience.
Try looking into vaccination programs? I do flu vaccines in schools from sept and there are other programs for HPV etc throughout the year.
I hope you find something and well done for getting through the training!
