Open to any and all suggestions - I'll sit and research cost before deciding.

I'm swaying towards York at the mo because it's easy 🤔

We just got back from a few days in Tynemouth, it was absolutely glorious. York is also lovely. We live close to Lancaster which I would also recommend!

We went to Flamborough Head last weekend - really nice bit of coastline, lots of places to stay nearby. I hate York (live nearby) so I am probably biased against it but everyone on MN seems to love it.

Toosup · 29/07/2024 16:13

Where are you starting from? York is tedious. Tynemouth? There's nothing there.

Lancaster is a good shout. There's the old prison and court and a big park overlooking the area.

leeverarch · 29/07/2024 16:17

You won't want to spend most of your time getting there and back again, so let us know roughly where you will be coming from.

lucysmam · 29/07/2024 16:31

That might have helped! Starting at Doncaster train station.

Maybe coast somewhere?

Llanbedr and Harlech on the coast of West Wales. Near to Barmouth which is a traditional seaside town.

YellowRollercoaster · 29/07/2024 16:35

What do you fancy doing? Museums, walks, beach, theatre?

In that case get yourself to East Yorkshire coast. There are plenty caravans/lodges on Hoseasons depending on budget. Can visit lots of nice little places like Hornsea, Withernsea, Withernslack etc and drive down to Spurn Point which is a really pretty place. Then you have the city of Hull not too far away if you want more action like The Deep or the museum quarter.

Liverpool is fantastic as a weekend break. Loads to see and do and great food.

Or Alnwick and do the northumberland coats.

Or Buxton and a bit of the peaks

AuntieMarys · 29/07/2024 16:39

Liverpool

York is generally my go to. Chester is lovely too.

who is travelling and what do they enjoy?

Redhairandhottubs · 29/07/2024 16:43

I asked the same question yesterday. You might find some of the suggestions on my thread useful ☺️

My vote would be Chester. Lots of historical things to do, great places to eat and drink. If you like shopping it's a bus ride to Cheshire Oaks.

Lovely park, trip up the river, cathedral is beautiful and a walk round the walls is great.

I went to York a couple of weeks ago and it was so so busy.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/07/2024 16:57

Whilst I love York, and work there once a fortnight or so, it's what - 20 mins from Donny? Would that feel "away" enough for you? With only 2 days, I'd be tempted by Whitby I think.

lucysmam · 29/07/2024 20:07

@Sirzy for me and the girls. Not looking for anything in particular - we're happy to just wander wherever we end up.

We do quite often end up in York, with it being so close to home @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads & had half made plans to spend a night anyway so we can do the ghost walk for dd2.

Whitby's a good shout - I haven't been there in years.
