We go on holiday today and ds has thrown up

I don't know what to do. He's 15 and can't pinpoint anything that could have caused it and ate the same as me yesterday. He tends to get these little bugs once a year or so.

We are due to go to London this afternoon in preparation for Eurostar first thing in the morning and then another train to Geneva. So a long day of travelling tomorrow.

He is currently lying in bed looking very wan. I have travel insurance but not sure it would cover this and couldn't get proof I wouldn't have thought. Even if it covered the costs, I don't know if trains would even have spaces for a couple of days time.

I'm a single parent so no other adults going - just me and two dc so can't split up and have ds come a bit later.

Aaargh - what would you do? Chances are he will be fine by Wednesday....

I’d go I think if it doesn’t get any worse.

Maddy70 · 29/07/2024 10:18

Chances are he will be ok. Hopefully it's a one off

sleekcat · 29/07/2024 10:20

I would just go. Chances are he'll be better in 24 hours and you would have lost your whole holiday.

Full fat coke and a bucket.

Always work.

craigth162 · 29/07/2024 10:21

Id go if hes not sick again

pinotnow · 29/07/2024 10:24

Thanks everyone - I guess it's sick-watch time now. Luckily we can go on any off-peak train to London today so he can pretty much stay in bed all day. The problem is, going by past experience he probably will be sick again and it will last into tomorrow. Who wants to sit next to someone clutching a sick bag on the Eurostar?

Maybe try Stugeron or other anti travel sickness stuff to get him through any nausea? I know it's probably a bug but might help. Bring Immodium too in case that side of things happens.

I'd go with some sick bags and a seat near the loo!

otravezempezamos · 29/07/2024 10:25

Let him rest as much as possible and go.

I second this. Sturdy sick bags and maybe some plain snacks like biscuits in case he suddenly feels hungry later. Go as late as you can. Anyone sitting near you will just assume he's travel sick. I've thrown up before whilst travelling, and also sat near other people throwing up, just one of those things.

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 29/07/2024 10:38

Not one person including the op has mentioned spreading gastro bugs to others. It's this reason why there is a 48 hour rule in schools etc. Are you happy for him to spread his bug to lots of other unsuspecting people and ruin their holidays too?

OakTree16 · 29/07/2024 10:58

Try some buccastem. You can get it behind the counter in chemists

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 29/07/2024 11:12

If he's not sick again, I'd go. He's 15 so can presumably be trusted to have decent hand hygiene etc to reduce any chance of him spreading it after he goes to the loo.

If he throws up again, I wouldn't go. It's selfish to take someone with an active vomiting bug onto a train.

He’s 15! Absolutely no need to sit next to people puking in a sick bag when he can walk to the toilet!

I’d travel, unless he gets worse, and try travel sick meds like Stugeron

Ohnobackagain · 29/07/2024 11:16

@pinotnow is there chance he’s anxious about the journey and it’s down to that? I think just keep a watchful eye for now.
