hello 😁 I have a disability which makes it difficult to twist and wiping my bottom after going to the toilet is really difficult.

will a bidet help with this. I don't think a hose attachment will because I would still need to hold the hose near my bum? but what about the ones that are like a toilet....do they shoot water? so I wouldn't need to twist?

Not an expert. My sister lives in Turkey and they have one built into their toilet. You stay sitting and then turn a tap and it shoots water at your bum. Not sure if they are available here but I think so.

that's the type I was thinking of, thanks. so do you sit and then twist round to turn the tap on? or can you turn the tap on before you sit down? or is the tap at the front?

The Japanese electronic bidets you have a remote that you push a button on and the bidet cleans your bum. My kid with similar issues to you found it easy to use.

Have you spoken to an occupational therapist? They can help you look at ideas such as a long handled wiper or closi mat toilet.

I used to have a long handled wiper. it's disgusting and humiliating

Have a look at smart toilets on any of the bathroom websites.
They look like normal toilets but they also wash and dry when needed. We have had one for years and it was life changing for a disabled family member.
Our one uses the existing water supply (it heats its own water for washing) and is powered by an ordinary electric plug but obviously you need an electrician to fix this up safely.

rightoguvnor · 29/07/2024 11:06

Our toilet is a Metro, the controls are on a panel attached to the side of the pan, so very easily accessible.

rightoguvnor · 29/07/2024 11:08

Sorry, me again. We had a clos-o-mat for many years and yes, they're very good if very expensive.

A Toto washlet is what you need. Japanese toilets with wash, dry bidet and self cleaning functions and automatic open and shut lid.

Bidets have the taps at the back so yes you would have to twist to turn them on whilst seated, but when I had one in a previous house (loved it) I would fill it before I sat on it, so just before I sat on the toilet I would quickly fill the bidet.

NewGreenDuck · 29/07/2024 11:27

I know 2, separate, people with disabilities who have these toilets that wash and dry. One person was not keen at first but was persuaded that it was better than having to rely on another person to keep them clean. They both really like the toilet now. It gives more dignity to the user, no more having to announce that assistance is required and keeps the user clean. If I were you, I would make enquiries through occupational health.

What about a bidet bottle? It's angled so you can hold it under from the front

Mine is a bidet like a loo. Lovely clean bum

Aussieland · 29/07/2024 13:51

Definitely recommend a Japanese style toilet. It will even warm your bum and play music (as well as wash and dry) No twisting needed

Mischance · 29/07/2024 13:58

Worth contacting LA OT to investigate financial help towards buying what you need.

WarmKittyColdKitty · 29/07/2024 13:59

Definitely go to Social Care / OT as others say. I got a wash/dry loo fitted for free - there was no means test as it cost under £2.5k. And it's brilliant.

happysunr1se · 29/07/2024 14:10

I have a Washloo. It's a uk made electronic bidet toilet. The control is on the side of the toilet and also on the remote control which you can place wherever u want.

The wash function temperature is controlled via the remote, you can also adjust the nozzle on the remote to be further forward or back depending
on where you want it to hit your undercarriage.

There's also a dryer function and you can open and close the lid and seat by touching the base of the toilet with your foot. There is a heated seat and also there is a model with a remote flush.

My builder said it was very simple to install and the company is very helpful with talking through any water pressure issues and what plumbing is best to go with the toilet.

I use much less toilet paper now and feel a lot cleaner 😁

thanks to everyone, this has helped so much. I will definitely try and find out about help to pay because they can be quite expensive by the looks of it

There are some that are operated by pushing a big red button at the side with your elbow, no twisting required. Can't remember the name but we are planning to install one like that in the next few months, I think I searched for shower toilets.

I am quite limited in the bending department too. but having followed some of the recommendations on this thread today, price is going to be a deciding factor (if I can't get it paid for) They appear to range from £400 to £4000
