I won't answer the OP's bloody rude OP.

But.

I'm in Australia and was a teacher. When I applied for a credit card with the ANZ, teaching was not recognised as a profession on their application form. I can see that in real terms, it isn't as it does not have the degree of independence and self-regulation associated with professions such as medicine, just as in the UK.

It's a skilled job with the expectations associated with something of a higher social consideration and commensurate pay. I thought this when working in the UK, and think it now.
