Do we need to let the owners know?

Blood can definitely be removed from white cotton. Soaking in cold water with salt definitely helps, as does spot treatment with cold water and proper soap. Had to wash sheets yesterday for this reason, and they came out spotless.

Heavy periods. I've considered setting up as a cleaner of murder scenes, because I'd be great at it.

I did leave an apologetic note for the cleaners after I bled on a hotel bed in Paris. A lovely 50th birthday present that was...

As a pp says, the dribble of the person who bled is the way to go! There is an enzyme or something in the spit that will take out the stain.

Wear and tear is part of what you pay for. If you can get the blood out, great. Maybe tell them to be polite but humans bleed. Nothing to worry about.
