Braces.. results not as good as expected.. help

Hi, paid for dd two years ago to have braces fitted as she didn’t qualify on the nhs. We are just over a week away from them being removed but she now has a gap between her two front teeth that is quite big. This wasn’t there before but now they’ve been put into the right position it is.. the orthodontist is saying that she can’t get them any closer and the top of the two front teeth are meeting and that as the teeth are rounded rather than straight that is what is causing the gap and there’s nothing she can do.

DD is worried that the gap is not going to look nice.. I would say it’s about 2mil..

im not sure whether to get a second opinion before they are removed or this is just how it is. Has anyone been through this?

thanks

Personally I love a gap!! During my braces treatment I had one for a few weeks. Then it closed. Was quite disappointed tbh. Try not to show you don't love dd's new look!!

@Sunshineafterthehail thank you! I’m just worried about her reaction. She’s been so excited about them coming off and you know what 15 year old girls are like about their appearance ..

Ignore posters saying gaps between teeth are cute.

Having them isn't great as it can cause food/bacteria build up. I knew of someone who ended up with gaps after braces and then ended up doing braces again with a different orthodontist who was shocked.

Definitely get a second opinion before they come off.

Edit: seen pics now and they don't look bad. I imagined a proper big ish gap.

Monkeysatonthewall · 27/07/2024 09:10

OP, delete the first pic as your daughter's name is visible.

The teeth are touching? There's no gap?

They look great. Theres a gap at the top because he teeth are slightly round. Unless you shave the teeth down you can't close that with braces

Downthemedow · 27/07/2024 09:11

I’m no orthodontist but they do look like they’re meeting at the top. After I had braces mine were rounded at the bottom like that too, possibly from biting wrong when they were squint. The dentist can build them up at the bottom with a type of filler material. I think mine cost £200, but you just have to be very careful and not bite into anything hard or it will break off.

Gladespade · 27/07/2024 09:12

I am confused. Those teeth are meeting at the top. How on earth do you expect them to close the gap when the teeth are meeting?

Curlewwoohoo · 27/07/2024 09:13

I don't think that looks like a noticeable gap tbh. They do look like they meet half way up so they couldn't be moved closer if they tried without making the tooth wonky which would be bad for the tooth I assume and it's neighbour on the outside. Teeth might well move a bit after the braces come off anyway and settle down, depending how good your DD is at wearing her retainer. Honestly doesn't look like anything to worry about in my opinion.

2chocolateoranges · 27/07/2024 09:13

There is no gap, it’s the shape of the tooth.

dd had braces on the nhs and her retainer broke during the beginning of covid and we couldn’t get it fixed. so she now has an overlap on lower teeth as teeth moved. It’s so annoying after all the pain of the braces but it’s one of these things.

NotStayingIn · 27/07/2024 09:14

Looks correct to me. Her teeth are touching on the straight bit in the middle.

Of course the round edges at the bottom of the teeth can’t touch.

Am I missing something here, I honestly can’t see how they could touch more then they are?

Billyballyboo · 27/07/2024 09:14

Her teeth look fine. Please delete the picture though due to her name, if that really is her name. I can't believe someone would actually call their daughter that!

Butwhybecause · 27/07/2024 09:16

Just make sure she wears her retainers when the brace comes off.

Kitkat1523 · 27/07/2024 09:16

There is no gap

user1471556642 · 27/07/2024 09:17

There is no gap, that is just the shape of her teeth.
A cosmetic dentist could probably make them look uniform with composite but it’s not needed

Priggishsausagebore · 27/07/2024 09:17

There's not a gap, it's just normal teeth?

Malahide · 27/07/2024 09:18

Definitely do not accept this from the orthodontist - you’ve paid far too much to receive lazy/substandard treatment. DD had a similar issue and something called interproximal reduction (basically filing in between the teeth in order to re-shape them so that they can fully close together) fixed it when she had her braces. Sounds a lot worse than it is - in reality for DD it was painless and only took a few mins

They look great. Tell her to stop looking at piano keyboard turkey teeth. Lily Allen has this gap and her teeth are lovely.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 27/07/2024 09:26

My DD had similar. The ortho just filed the bit that was touching to make a space a few weeks before they came off and the last few weeks pushed them together.

pastaandpesto · 27/07/2024 09:36

I think they look lovely OP. Healthy and natural.

I would not be at all keen on the idea of filing young healthy teeth to achieve a specific cosmetic result. As a PP mentioned, the turkey teeth look has a lot to answer for here.

goingdownfighting · 27/07/2024 09:39

Speak to the dentist about some cosmetic composite bonding to fill in the space.
Obviously it will be paid for privately as it's cosmetic.

The orthodontist has done their job there.
Does she drink fizzy drinks? It could be tooth wear that's caused that shape so have a look at her diet as this could make it worse.

I am talking about 1/10ths of a millimetre of shaving here - nothing major or unhealthy in the slightest, it is incomparable to turkey teeth. It is very commonly used in orthodontics on patients of all ages and nowadays helps to avoid extractions in quite a lot of cases.

MrsPerfect12 · 27/07/2024 09:41

The tooth meets until the bottom third. Composite bonding is the only way to fix it if it bothers you.

Mayyay · 27/07/2024 09:44

Her teeth look beautiful, lovely and straight!
