Has anyone had a new boiler through BG and been able to negoiate?

Getting a quote from BG to install new boiler. Our 38 year old one finally given up. BG isnt that much dearer than a couple of local businesses, can do soon and throw on a few extras. Local people cant do for 3-4months.

BG refused to negotiate on £4500.
We looked on the Vailant website to see how much the boiler alone would cost. £700. There was a clicky on their page to find a local installer, and that's what we did. £2000 all in, with some additional pipe work and radiator thermostats.

Gosh thats crazy! I'll certainly consider that. Just want a combi ...we only have a small semi and only 6 radiators.

We are on BG homecare cover I assume you can still have cover on a non BG installed boiler.

Look at Boxt.

They do interest free payments if you want and available in a couple of days.

BG came in cheaper than 2 local plumbers and most importantly could do it very short notice when our boiler broke the week before Christmas. Don't recall negotiating on the peixe though.

CornishTeaTime · 26/07/2024 23:00

Yeah BG do interest free, will take cylinder out and 2 tanks in loft and dispose of if we go for a combi boiler. I'll get all the quotes and see luckily it's Summer so do have some time

Anyone else any advice?

I'd always go for a local installer.

All BG are interested in is your annual contract. All about recurring revenue.

Get some quotes from locals, nothing to lose.

I negotiated on price @CornishTeaTime . It was a while ago (2018), but as I didn't reply to their quote straight away, I got a follow up email a couple of weeks later. I phoned them then and asked if there was any room for negotiation on the price as it was a little bit over my budget.

I can't remember the exact amount but I have a feeling it was about 10% reduction.

They fitted it really quickly too and it's been great.

I'm sorry that I can't remember any details and I'm trapped under a sleeping dog so I can't go and dig out the paperwork. Definitely worth asking BG though!

It was 5+ years ago - and I had had their boiler care plan for several years. I was stony broke (still am), widowed with 2 young kids. It was the Beast from the East winter. They came out many times to try and keep the old boiler going but eventually had to condemn it. They gave me "manager's discount" of £1,000 off- which put British Gas in the same bracket of the other quotes I'd got. I went with them because they'd been so helpful/ not customer services but the actual engineers. And I felt there'd be better comeback if something went wrong, rather than with some fly by night local plumber.

CornishTeaTime · 28/07/2024 15:26

@Timebox Im thinking the same Always had their homecare and always been happy with calls outs and engineers etc.
