Application of Primary School (Reception)

Hi,

I live in Harrogate but we(family) like down south so planning of moving Aylesbury or MK not sure. As I have to go to office thrice in a week which is in Harrogate, we moved here from down south but my family lives in Aylesbury. I might get the opportunity to move to Aylesbury.

So here my question is, can I apply for primary school in Aylesbury online as my little one will turn 4 next January. Or do I get the eligibility to apply to primary schools only once I moved to down south?

Can anyone suggest please?

Thank you!

You have to apply from the property at which you are living, so if you are not living in Aylesbury at the time of application and when applications close, you cannot apply to a school there. You would have to apply as a late applicant when you move.

Disagree slightly with pp.
You have to apply using your Harrogate address. However you can name an Aylesbury school if you want. However from that distance you will only get in if it is undersubscribed (unless unusual circumstances such as adopted.)

You can apply in any area but the criteria will be applied to the address at the time. So you won't get a catchment or distance based place if you are living in Harrogate. You may still be allocated an undersubscribed school. Normal advice is to apply where you are and submit a local one once you move,

But what if I use my family's address who are living in Aylesbury while applying for primary schools?

An also one more question, what if I don't get chance to move down south after applying for school?

That wound not be accepted as your valid address. Bucks are very specific as what qualifies.

They are very clear that you apply through your home LA if you plan to move and would need to prove your address by end January.

Applying from the wrong address is so common that councils look out for it and can cross-reference applications to council tax, electoral roll and child benefit addresses. Even if you did appear to succeed, you can have the place withdrawn, even after the child starts school.

Apply in your local area so that, if the move is delayed or falls through, your child has a place to start school, unless realistically you would home-educate or go independent instead. Use all the available preferences and include a “banker” that is close enough to get to and you stand a good chance of getting a place at if you don’t get your first stated preference.

When you have moved, apply from your new address for a school nearby but you may not get a place at an over-subscribed school at that point, so you may wish to factor that into your choice of location.

That wouldn’t be your address though and it would be regarded as fraud and you could lose any place offered.

If you were buying and had exchanged contracts or renting and had a rental agreement in place, it would be different.

If you don’t move, you apply to schools in the Harrogate area.
