I work with computers and was doing some overtime today and then I had a migraine so I think it was too much computer work but then again I've also had these migraines when I've not looked at the computer I'd like someone to help me but no doctor is interested

You can find information here https://www.fedup.com.au/factsheets/factsheets-by-symptom/headaches-and-migraines.

Also, changing air pressure can have an effect when the weather changes.

FancyNewt · 26/07/2024 04:21

I get these. If I have 2 aspirins at the start they disappear pretty quickly. Look up retinal migraines.

You can certainly have the aura without having the headache. I think light is the most likely thing to give me an aura. I sometimes get those nowadays and they don't last long. At present I have a bright screen in front of me and a bright window beyond that so it's a possible. If an aura started I'd sign off, close this down and move to do something else.
To me the aura is not a worry. It's much preferable to three days of screaming pain over one eye, without any aura, which I used to have for years until the blessed doctor gave me triptans.

To be referred to a migraine clinic you would have had to try medication from your doctor first

norasand · 26/07/2024 13:35

There's little point in medication though, if they disappear within 10 minutes. There's barely time to get a triptan and a glass of water before they're gone.

I get occular migraines, sometimes with pain and in clusters. For me, seeing an osteopath to release neck tightness works well. Worth a try maybe

I do not get cluster headaches I know what they are but I've never had one

I'm not talking about cluster headaches. I'm talking about occular migraines that sometimes 'cluster' as several per week. Sometimes with no headache, sometimes with. Having my neck released helps me. It may or may not help you, but if you start getting the aura more frequently, it may be worth a try.

Occular migraines are quite common and if yours are infrequent, without pain and only last 10 minutes it's unlikely for medication to be beneficial to you. It would be heavy handed to put you on something preventative and when you have one, it sounds like it's over before any triptan would take effect. However if they get worse, I'd go back to the GP.

After reading your response I realize what you meant by clusters and I have to say I have never experienced those but when I speak to other people they tell me they have had migraines but they haven't had one for years so I would love to know why I cannot go for years and years without having one I just do not understand it and I spoke to somebody at work and I said to her do you get migraines and her response was I haven't had one for about four years and that's why I wanted mine investigated because I had one three months ago and then I had another one a couple of days ago and somebody else at work told me they used to get them and then they stop teething chocolates and they never got one again so I said when was the last time you had one and they say it must have been six years ago I just don't get it

What works for me is cold Pepsi and cold and flu pills

CallThatCloudy · 27/07/2024 22:56

OK,at the risk of being sent to Pedants corner, if you are getting visual aura (zig zaggy arcs in vision, then this is happening in the visual cortex part of the brain, and you'll see it in both eyes, eyes open or closed. No way should the GP be sending you to an optician for this. Losing sight over some part of vision on one eye, which then comes back might be retinal migraine. An optician may be able to see this looking at the back of the eye, but only when its happening. I don't know what ocular migraines are; I've seen the term used for both aura (in the brain) and retinal migraines. Probably better to avoid the term.

Anyway. What do I know. Like you my migraines only come as visual auras, they last about 20 minutes, but I feel flattened for a day afterwards, although there's no headache. I was taking propanolol which controlled the migraine well, but out of the blue I suddenly went from 3 or 4 a year to 20 in three months (and three in one day), so I'm now on Topiramate (after a fairly urgent scan - nothing found), and I've had only one this year.

Sorry - rambled! Bottom line, there are medications, but migraines are common so unless you have a lot or increased frequency it won't be seen as urgent, but if you do see the GP don't be fobbed off with talk of opticians!

Your migraines are infrequent and short lived. You do not need medical attention.

StormingNorman · 27/07/2024 23:06

Take a look at the Migraine Trust website. They are probably the best source of information on migraines and there’s a section which outlines different types along with treatments.

You can also book to see one of their consultants privately in return for a donation.

I get these from time to time. I pretty much go blind on one side from the zig zags, and it only last 30 minutes or so. No headache.
I tracked them when they happened.. and I came to the (unscientific) conclusion that they are hormonal.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 28/07/2024 00:03

I get them too occasionally, last 10-20 mins, no pain. I've seen the optician, nothing to worry about.

Flute56 · 28/07/2024 04:05

Mine might be hormonal although I went to the menopause 20 years ago and I have to say neither of my parents ever had migraines

When I was a teenager I used to suffer from epileptic fits although I had every test that could be done and a lot of brain scans and they could find nothing wrong with me these epileptic type fits is to occur every year until I was in my 20s I have not had one of these seizures for over 40 years and I'm not on any percentage if medication so I hope the same will happen with migraines

OP posts:
Flute56 · 28/07/2024 04:16

I just thought if they could give me brain scans and other types of tests when I had those seizures to find out what was going on why an earth can they not do the same about these migraines I just get fubbed off and told oh it's just one of those things
