Something to do in boston.

I'm going to see my mum. Who in a home. I have not seen her for many years. She has dementia. I think early on set . I know she walks with a frame. But I think she has a wheel chair for if she leaves the home.

I'm wondering if there's anything I could do with her whilst I'm there. I don't drive so we are a bit restricted.

Also anything me and dd could do whilst we are there . Dd is 14

Also if for some reason I can't take her out of the home. Any suggestions of what we could do or even talk about in the home.

Boston, Mass?
or Boston, Lincolnshire?

GettingStuffed · 25/07/2024 13:22

Be prepared for her not to want to go out. In dementia they sometimes want to be in recognisable places. MiL went from nowhere but the house & garden to her bedroom and the toilet with months.

Yeah I know. That's partly why I was wondering what tlwe could do in the care home. Could I take anything etc

Ive Not been there for years but from memory there’s not a lot. It’s a market town.
I’d do as @GettingStuffed suggests visit your mum, maybe take a cake or some nice biscuits. It’ll be easier with her in familiar surroundings and you won’t have to negotiate streets with a wheelchair.

You could take a family photo album if you have one. or something she particularly liked maybe, a magazine, gardening magazine as they have lots of photos?

Ask the care home staff. Will she recognise you, do you think?

I don't know if she will . Will have to take that as it comes.

Most people enjoy a walk around a garden centre. Is there one nearby preferably with a cafe?

reallifeboogie · 25/07/2024 15:24

If appropriate given that you've not seen her in a long time, could you take photos of when you were younger, holidays together etc. Something to reminis over.

Perhaps just a walk around the gardens? I presume there will be gardens.

I may be able to find a couple of photos on my phone. I was thinking things from a long time ago nay be a good idea. Maybe a chat about my childhood home neighbour hood etc .
