Husky on a window ledge: any firefighters here can explain this?

I was searching yesterday for information about why there were loads of fire engines in a street near me and I discovered that London Fire Brigade have a database of incidents, which makes interesting reading.

You can filter to animal rescue and I was intrigued to find this (there’s a picture):

I guess the owners of the house and dog must have been uncontactable. My question is, why would the police or fire brigade not have just broken into the house and rescued the dog from the inside?

Perhaps there was a risk if they approached from behind (the open window) the dog would have been startled and jumped as it looked too big to turn around on the window sill.

(Im not a firefighter but do have an old fire extinguisher in the garage - somewhere)

I’m guessing if they break into someone’s house, especially for a non-emergency (I wouldn’t really class a dog in a window as an emergency), they have to repair the damage caused and secure the property. That probably is not in budget and causes a lot of annoying paperwork.

Must be quite a big budget to attend with a cherry picker though?

Most locksmiths can get into a house without causing damage.

Maybe not for the fire brigade as it's part of their own kit.

Trying to get the dog from behind from the open winds looks pretty impossible; opening the window next to the dog might well have startled it backwards off the ledge. Approaching from the outside looks much the most sensible method.

Well unless it stopped them attending another call or meant people had to be paid overtime surely the only actual cost is the fuel to drive there which won't be significant?

I see what you are saying, but I would have thought that having a massive great cherry picker looming towards it might also have been quite startling.

Not if the fireman shows that he has a ball.in his hand.

A ball, to most dogs, transcends everything!
