Defrost advice 🤪

I was meant to take a bolognaise sauce out the freezer last night and put in fridge but I forgot.
I put in in the fridge at 6am this morning, but don’t think it will have fully defrosted by 5pm this evening.
Whats the safest way to defrost? 😁

I'd just leave it out of the fridge - covered.

AzureAnt · 25/07/2024 08:32

Microwave

I never defrost anything in the fridge, it just takes too long. Just leave it on the kitchen top and then once defrosted put in fridge.

I don't defrost in the fridge as it always takes 40 days and 40 nights.

So I live on the wild side and defrost on the worktop 🤪

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 25/07/2024 08:40

I never defrost in the fridge either. It takes way too long. I just take it out in the morning and leave it to defrost on the kitchen top through the day. Never had an issue and been doing it that way for years.

Oneearringlost · 25/07/2024 08:42

I echo worktop.
Also microwave on 'Defrost' or low is fine!
You'll be cooking it thoroughly through to eat.

Thanks for your replies, I’m useless!

I’m out now til early this afternoon.

Shall I take it out of the fridge when I get back, leave it out covered, then finish off on the defrost setting in the microwave?

Wait until it starts to defrost in container shake it like crazy until it loosens, put it in a watertight freezer bag and run cold water over it until it's fully defrosted. I use this for meats and it works well. I haven't been sick once

andjustlikethat1 · 25/07/2024 08:54

I actually took out spag Bol yesterday morning at 11 and it was defrosted by 6 I didn't use the cool water method as I didn't need to. I think you will be fine. Keep shaking it

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 25/07/2024 17:16

Just put it in a pan and cook it or stick it the microwave and cook it!

YouAndMeAndThem · 25/07/2024 17:23

I got out a frozen curry this morning, around 11ish. It's been sat on the counter all day. No where near defrosted but I'll just bung it in a pan with a lid on a low heat until it's bubbling hot.

PianPianPiano · 25/07/2024 17:24

Meh, I don't always even bother to defrost things like that. Stick it in a pan on a low eat with a splash of water and break it up as it melts. Then cook until it's piping hot throughout.

wwyd2021medicine · 25/07/2024 17:56

Chilli or bolognese, splash of boiling water goes into pan with it and cook on very low heat with lid on until thawed. Take lid off and stir and reduce if needed.

longdistanceclaraclara · 25/07/2024 18:30

Another vote for worktop defrosting. Defrosting in the fridge never works unless you have a week spare.

Bolognese I would just stick in the pan and cook until hot.

DatingDinosaur · 25/07/2024 19:28

I just cook mine from frozen. If I want a bit of a crispy top I whack it under the grill for a few minutes once it's been nuked.
