Crutches on holiday

Iwasjustasking · 25/07/2024 07:57

Just my luck I have injured my leg quite badly and go on holiday abroad next week. I am just about to book assistance at the airport and have asked the hotel for a ground floor room. I am contemplating booking an electric scooter while I am away to help me get around and there will be me DH and two primary age children.
Does anyone have any experience/practicalities of the above that might help me, or any experience of being on crutches abroad?

It maybe worth contacting the airline to see if you need a fit to fly letter.

It is not in a plaster cast, would I still need one @Hugesunflower ?

Have you informed travel insurance?

DelilahBucket · 25/07/2024 08:51

Definitely inform your travel insurer. If you have extra leg room seats booked you will need to swap these. As to the practicalities of when you are there, it depends where you are going and if you will need to be going out often or if, for example, you're all inclusive.

I don’t need extra leg room, or extra seats or anything like that, once I am sat down I am fine, just can’t bear weight on my leg at the moment, can a physio issue fit to fly? I’ve just called my doctors and surprise they have no appointments!

What I meant was if you have extra leg room seats booked you won't be allowed to sit there and will have to change them. The only people who can answer questions about fit to fly is the airline.

Only if the extra leg room seats lead straight to the emergency exit. We aways book extra leg room seats. Pre children I would always choose the ones next to the emergency exit but now we have kids we can’t book these ones but we still get extra legroom seats.

@DelilahBucket sorry I understand what you mean now, I haven’t booked extra leg room seats so that is fine. On the phone to the airline now, thanks for your help
