I've lost the hamster

DS got a fairly new hamster, loves it of course. Long story but he managed to get out and has disappeared in a tiny hole next to the toilet in DDs en-suite upstairs. Everyone is devastated of course, I could hear a bit of scrabbling in the floorboards when I was downstairs but it's stopped. Have laid some treats, food and a home made humane trap in the bathroom in the hope thy he will reappear. Have I got any hope at all here? This was only about an hour ago - could he come back or can they not find their way out? Any other tips for finding an escapee? So gutted about this

Mine went missing for about 3 days. One day he appeared under the bed eating a monkey nut he'd removed from his cage. He was fine, but almost entirely black! No idea where he'd been to get so dirty! Could you pop his cage in the room so he can let himself in?

Yes - this happened to us too. Actually he didn't resurface for about a month, then emerged from a bedroom wardrobe! You're doing all the right things. They don't usually leave the house.

And to add, we caught ours via the humane trap too.

My DC had an escapoligist hamster like this - the rule was only allowed to play with Sat hamster in the bath or sat in the tuff tray as it couldn't climb the rim!

He will be hiding to decompress. When it's quiet and dark and he's hungry he should come out but it might take a few days.

Getting flashbacks to the time when the school I taught in had hamsters as class pets. They are accomplished escapologists; the one in my classroom kept getting out but would give himself up to the caretaker in the morning. The one in the next-door class got out and into the bakery across the road. They were not pleased with us.
