I don't understand the appeal

I support a lower league football team, a long way from where I live. I don't expect anyone to understand, but I've been going home and away on a regular basis for decades, it's a part of who I am.

I go with a very dear old friend, and a reason to meet up with him is all part of the day.

The team are playing a friendly against an even lower league team about 40 mins from where I live. My regular friend is away and can't go. I fancied it and would have gone alone, but I just put a note on of my group chats asking if anyone wanted to come.

Three men have said they'll come! They're all interested in football, but not in these teams and it's only a friendly and not exactly on our doorstep!

It's nice, but I don't get it! I'm looking for a catch 😆

Dh would - he just loves watching football and going to matches, obviously prefers his supported team but will go to any given the opportunity

If they like football, there is no pressure in this game for them. My dh hates going to see his team as he says it isnt enjoyable as he gets so annoyed if they lose. This idea of yours would be stress free for him.

When I was younger, I would have offered if I was in your group. Whilst I mainly watched the team I support, I went to many matches where I was a neutral, just for the fun of watching football. That included matches in lower leagues including amateur football.

@Lowerechelons

if you only wanted certain people to say 'Yeah, I'll come' why not just ask them directly?

lots of people just enjoy watching the game. It's just a different kind of experience to watching 'your' team.

no different to watching the games in the other half of the Euros draw or something.

Oh no, I'm pleased that they're coming, just surprised.

What do you mean looking for a catch?

I don't know, I'm being lighthearted, but it feels like a set up. No idea what for.

I don't really know what you mean. I know people who will go to all sorts of things, whether they are particularly interested in them or not. In fact my mum is like this. She's 80 now but she honestly does at least two if not three things a day with various people.

Sisterdeloris · 24/07/2024 17:25

Do you think these 3 men have an ulterior motive?

UpThereForThinkingDownThereForDancing · 24/07/2024 17:25

That sounds lovely!
It's just an excuse for a jolly isn't it.
Nice pint after the game in a different pub.
Enjoy your new friends. 😁
