Normal stomach ache or travellers tummy?

On our first family abroad holiday, it been 17 years since DH and I went and kids never been.

I'm currently sat on the loo with stomach ache and the runs. Almost threw up earlier.

But, I do have an incredibly sensitive stomach and this in itself isn't unusual. I get this about once a month or so. Always happens in the middle of the night, like now.

But also, holiday abroad, drinks, food, heat, could be travellers tummy?

I'm paranoid about ruining my kids holiday, and it's our wedding anniversary on Sunday so a posh meal out planned.

If it's travellers tummy, how do I fix it?

I had this whilst away a few weeks ago. Lasted about 24 hours (the bloat from flying lasted about 4 days and I was gone a week!) refrain from alcohol for 24 hours, plenty water and stay hydrated and hopefully you’ll feel back to normal soon. Happy anniversary! I hope you enjoy the remainder of your holiday.

Can't you just take diarrhoea tablets for now

Avoid dairy you might find you're lactose intolerant

I will take some tablets, glad I bought some with me.

I'm not lactose intolerant, I've been tested for it when doctors were trying to figure out why I get the stomach aches I do......it's still a mystery. Currently have a working diagnosis of functional dyspepsia but that's kind of a catch all diagnosis when no other issue can be found.

Thank you, definitely no alcohol today. Not sure I even want to eat. Glad to hear it could just be a 24 hour thing.

Are you feeling better now? If it’s something that often happens it might just be that and a one time thing. Stay by your hotel today and just eat bland food.

Which country are you in? Maybe also stick to bottled water (even for teeth brushing) and no ice, salad or fruit unless you have washed it. Even if the water is safe and drinkable by most people you may not tolerate the different bacteria it has.

Edited

I feel a bit better, stomach still hurts but not as much.

I'm just sat by the side of the pool reading. I've taken diareoah tablets which has at least stopped that!

Still haven't dared eat, but am drinking flat sprite and water.

I'm in tenerife. Had a couple of iced drinks but not many at all. My kids and DH have had many more with no side effects.

I have an insanely sensitive stomach, I tend to stick to safe foods at home but going AI I have indulged and maybe my stomach just can't handle it.

I had this recently on holiday. I didn’t throw up but I was nauseous, had cramps and had awful diarrhoea esp on the penultimate day and I took Imodium to travel home as no way was I gonna be having the runs on the plane etc.
We have been back since Sun eve and I’m still not 100% - a bit knocked for six and my appetite isn’t fully back although I seem to be OK otherwise. I do think it was a bug as I felt very drained and my heart rate on my Fitbit was elevated by about 20 bpm.
We were in some v clean Northern European cities. We did drink tap water but we checked and it was fine to do so.

Thankfully it lasted just the one day, I couldn't eat really all day (did manage some salty crisps & that was it).

Back to normal today, but I took so much immodium I don't think I'm gonna poop for a week 🤣
