Omg royal mail have really fucked up. My parcel said out for delivery. It got to 1.45 still not here and I have to leave for school run at 2pm. So I look at other options it gives me an option to deliver to a neighbour so I ask for delivery to next door ... road mail have now rescheduled my delivery for tomorrow. To go next door . I never asked for delivery date to be rescheduled. It never told me this would happen.. the worst thing is it's frozen rats for my snakes.

Ooh I was just about to post a moaning thread about Royal Mail!!

Waiting in for a tracked delivery (also perishable, has a sticker on it saying temp controlled) - saw it was out for delivery, sat here at front door waiting. Suddenly tracking website changes to "attempted delivery, no one in". No red card, no doorbell, no knock, no van down the road, nothing. Total liars.

They say they'll attempt delivery tomorrow but they apparently "attempted" today, which they blatantly didn't - and no red card so I can't pick it up at the sorting office which in any case is only open from 8-10am. If I "rearrange delivery" the earliest is Thursday by which point the whole thing will have melted. No customer service to call, no contact to be made with anyone (apparently only the sender can contact them?!)

How on earth does this company still operate...it's shocking.

Probably stupid question. But I was wondering if they have fridge/freezers within the sorting office. Or a van that keeps things frozen 🤔. Because mine came solidly frozen still . Probably not though

The issue is that when you change the location it becomes a re delivery, I do it for work sometimes. The fact it was next door is irrelevant because the computer just treats it as change of location

mitogoshi · 23/07/2024 12:04

But great news that it's still fine!

mitogoshi · 23/07/2024 12:05

They are packed in dry ice typically, giving 48-72 hours (my ex had to get all sorts for work)

AzureAnt · 23/07/2024 12:23

The once highly respected Royal Mail are now a shower of shit. I ve had a couple of run ins with them, like not bothering to knock on the door with a parcel when there is someone home, not leaving a card to say they tried to deliver, getting abuse at the sorting office when I tried to complain.

But the top, the very top one was a large envelop of extremely important documents, requiring a signature, had been shoved through a letter box about 5 streets away, random house, different name, different house number. Luckily the householder recognised the importance of this envelope and brought it round to us.
I didn't bother to complain after the tirade of abuse I received previously, the man was extremely aggressive and knew where I lived so my post could have ended up anywhere 😡

I agree it's ridiculous that if you want to divert to a neighbour they will but on a different day.
For all those saying leave a note- officially unless you make the request via the app RM will not deliver it elsewhere.
It can depend on the postie. Some will apply common sense but others are by the book and won't- I guess they can be on dodgy ground with the boss if the neighbour then denies having it.
If you set it up in advance on the app though you're ok.
They'll deliver it to safe place/neighbour.

Quite possibly, if they routinely agree to deliver temperature-controlled goods which are clearly labelled as such. That’s what happens in my field (air cargo logistics).

@Xiaoxiong your story about the fictional “attempted delivery” is so awful, I have had similar happen and what I find extremely frustrating is that there is no longer anyway to get the ear of a human being to complain and ask what went so badly wrong. If a genuine IT or labelling glitch then I might be inclined to forgive and forget, but would be good to know. Equally, if it is a really shit lying employee then surely they need to know?! All you can do is the online reschedule requests.

Xiaoxiong · 23/07/2024 14:29

@HotCrossBunplease exactly. The sorting office is 10 minutes up the road - if there was someone there I could ring, and it was open more than 2 hours in the morning, I could pop over right now and pick it up! But instead it's probably sitting in the back of a van melting in the box. Or if I could ring them, they could ring the postie to come back as I have been sitting in all day waiting for it!

I'm also worried they'll "attempt delivery" again tomorrow (ie. not attempt at all) and I'm going away on Friday - and why it was on 24 hour delivery in the first place! I'm going to have to sit out in a deck chair on the road all morning like a complete madwoman.
