Would you keep this appointment?

About a year ago, I had some post coital bleeding. I have previously had a polyp removed a couple of times and I had assumed it might be that. The nurse said she couldn’t see a polyp, but agreed that that was the most likely cause, and said sometimes they can be hidden.

She referred me to the hospital for a polyp removal and it’s taken about a year for the appointment to come round.

However, in the meanwhile the bleeding has stopped.

The appointment is tomorrow and I feel like I’m going to be wasting their time, however, I also think that if a polyp is starting to grow back I would like to get it sorted given that the lead in time for appointments is so long.

I’m worried if I turn up and there isn’t a polyp that they will think I am wasting their time.

What would you do, would you cancel the appointment?

I'd still go. the bleeding could start again anytime.

I would still go. Polyp might have grown back, or there could be another reason for the original bleed which they may find - fibroid etc.

Sorry you have had to wait so long.

Re read your own thread.... The nurse agreed that was the most likely cause. She isn't a specialist.. My dm had radical surgery for cervical cancer at 42.. Your nurse isn't a specialist.. Though I am sure she is a very nice nurse. Get to that appointment.. Whatever they remove will be sent for analysis then you will know for sure...

It's their job.

Not time wasting at all.

You won't be wasting their time. I got an appointment for polyp removal two weeks after smear test/following up with GP and when I had the hospital appointment/biopsy taken the nurse said it was unlikely to be a polyp but scarring from loop excision.

I certainly wasn't made to feel I'd wasted anyone's time though - much better to be safe than sorry. I'm sure they'd rather have 99,999 cases of benign growths than miss one that was more serious.

If you cancel the appointment with only 1 day notice , they may not be able to reallocate it suitably. I'd still go.

That seems to be unanimous!

Thanks for the reassurance everyone, I'd really convinced myself that they'd be cross with me for still going in if there isn't a polyp there!
