Nose piercing

Dd wants her nose pierced for her 14th birthday in September. I'm wondering what the aftercare is like and whether she'd be better getting it done now whilst she has 5 weeks left of summer holidays?

I did have mine done years ago but I can't remember much about it tbh and ended up taking it out after a few weeks.....

I think it's similar to the ear, you need to clean it and twist it for about 4 weeks. Make sure she goes to a proper piercer using a needle as a gun is more likely to cause scarring if she takes it out. And use solid gold or silver just in case she's sensitive. The nose and ears might react slightly differently. So probably good idea to do it sooner rather than later.
I loved having a nose piercing. First time was aged 13/14. Last time I had one was about 10 years ago and the stud kept coming out so I gave up. 🙁

What’s school’s take on it? If she’ll have to remove it for school you’d be best doing it when she has longer to keep it in I think.

I’ve had mine since I was 16, so 31 years although I didn’t wear anything in it for about a decade. It never fully healed over so when I fancied it I could poke a stud through (I like the L shaped ones. They are easier to put in and stay in place)

Will she be allowed to wear it in school? It wouldn't be allowed at my DC's school.

First, check with her school. If she’ll have to take it out (and even if it’s not a breach of their uniform policy, she may have to remove it for PE) then it needs to be done with at least six weeks to heal, longer is better. It is not the same as an earlobe piercing - cleaning is gently with saline or solution recommended by the piercer and usually just around both sides of the piercing with a cotton bud. No twisting or agitating it.
Do not under any circumstances let anyone near her with a piercing gun.
A good piercer will ask to see ID both for your DD and you. Their studio will be clean. They will pierce with a needle and have assured, sealed jewellery to use. They will fully explain healing and aftercare to you. They will likely recommend a time frame for swapping the jewellery out when healed.

If she has to change it for school she can get the clear stud designed for this.

For me it was one of the easiest piercings, you have to look after it and keep it clean but it doesn't take long to heal.

Thanks all. No issues with school although I need to double check re PE.

Yes definitely going with a needle - do people even still do it with guns? I'm
