Is it a bad idea to visit Paris in August?

I would like to visit Paris in August for 3 nights with family. But, I read in Reddit that in July and August, Parisians go on holiday and many restaurants in Paris are closed.
Should I move this trip to December or next year Easter holidays?
Thank you.

Isn’t it the olympics then?

I'm not sure about things being closed but it can be incredibly hot.

All of the above, from the last weekend in July to mid August a lot of Northern French people go south on holiday so restaurants/bars/shops are closed. The Olympics in Paris will be disruptive and in August mid-France is ridiculously hot, humid and uncomfortable. I'd book another time if possible.

We had quite a good holiday one August - a lot quieter although still lots of tourists. Weather wasn't too bad for us, although was hot and humid. You just have to walk slower and keep hydrated.

It sounds like absolute chaos because of the Olympics.

Generally Paris is hot and rather empty in August. A lot of restaurants close and people go away for the month. It's not the best time to visit.

This year August will be a complete disaster, at least until the 11th when the main Olympics end. Expect to pay €500 for a Travelodge-level hotel room, if you can find any. And then the Paralympics start on the 28th, which will be less busy but still probably have the full-on security that these events tend to require.

I booked an over night stay for the 1st August just last week for a reasonable price. Prices have come down as occupancy is only at 70%. Eurostar prices have also reduced dramatically.
