I'm watching this for the answer and any tips on whites op, because whatever I do to DC's white school polos they still look like they've been kicked around a skip🤦‍♀️

Hanging outside or by a window helps to keep whites white. The sun bleaches them.

Only wash whites with whites. I usually wash on a hot but as I'm too scared to wash on a cool I couldn't tell you if a cool wash is just as good.

Lidl in wash oxygen stuff is good, I put it in the drawer. And powder rather than gel for the actual washing stuff.

keylimedog · 21/07/2024 06:52

I've always put it in the drawer - there should be instructions on the bottle! I (without going to check) think it's either in the drawer or in the prewash running water? I'm guessing if you put it straight into the drum it might not disperse well / damage an item if it gets poured directly on top maybe?

Weird question - why don't you want to use the drawer?

AttackMeleys · 21/07/2024 06:54

The sun thing is lies, lies I tell you 😆
Of course I always separate whites only, I'm not an absolute mn heathen!
I won't take over your thread op, hope.you get the answer x

What is the issue with using the drawer?

I would as then it's diluting going into the drum.

But don't use it too often. Bleach causes yellowing after some time.

Swissrollover · 21/07/2024 07:04

I put it in the detergent compartment of drawer once the water starts running, as most UK machines don't have a bleach compartment. I would not pour neat on the clothes in the drum, far too much risk of damage to the garments.

Sidebeforeself · 21/07/2024 07:14

I was advised by two washing machine repair men ( separately) that using the drawers significantly increases chances of machine problems and reduces their lifespan. As a consequence, I haven’t put liquid in the drawers for years . The bottle doesn’t say anything about how to use with capsules and Google isn’t telling me either - although its v early Sun am so I might not be at my sharpest!

I put the Ace in a dosing ball into the machine on top of the laundry

QuestionableMouse · 21/07/2024 07:19

I don't understand how using the drawers for their job would damage the machine? I'm pretty sure mine has water going through it regardless of if I put stuff in there or not. Just put it in the drawer, it won't hurt anything!

Werweisswohin · 21/07/2024 07:23

I never use the drawer.
For whites I use Lidl powder or Daz powder and a small scoop of the Lidl version of stain removing powder, added directly to drum.
I never use liquids in the machine either as they just coat everything and don't wash the same imho. I also don't like pods.
Drying outside as much as possible helps too.

But that is what the drawers are made for?

Maybe with the liquid it coats the pipes over time or something to that effect, but surely using the drawer every now and then for bleach isn't going to cause damage.

Luddite26 · 21/07/2024 07:29

Sun? So we can bleach our clothes with the sun a couple of times a year when it makes an appearance?

Only wash whites with whites that's all I can say and some clothes are made cheaply and go grey whatever you do.

sandgrown · 21/07/2024 07:33

I know the sun makes a rare appearance but I find it great for lightening whites and stain removal .

Summerx · 21/07/2024 07:36

Just be careful if the clothes have any suncream on them - Ace turns it pink!

I use Napisan in every white wash, definitely makes a difference.

Sidebeforeself · 21/07/2024 07:56

I don’t think they meant the drawer itself is a problem, but that the liquid going through it can clog the machine over time.

A dosing ball may be the answer …never heard of one before!

I use persil non bio washing powder and vanish whites powder in a dosing ball, I place under the sheets. Dry outside when possible, my whites are brilliant white and aren't new.

Thisbastardcomputer · 21/07/2024 08:33

Also only wash whites with whites

AnchorWHAT · 21/07/2024 09:59

I have used it and stick everything in the drum with no issues, however be sure ace is only used with pure white things as it bleached a few marks on pale tops i stuck in the white wash. I have better results with a big scoop of napisan in the drum with my powder or liquid, only use the drawer for fabric softener.
